I use Adobe Audition and i regularlly put my bass into it. I just turn the volume down on my bass. Or put the bass into an FX pedal with a volume out put and turn the output volume right down. Oh and to your actual question i dunno if u can make ure guitar sound like a bass.

You can get an effects pedal that will change the pitch of your guitar. They make several, but the one that comes to mind is the Octave Box. They're pricey, but they make cheaper ones.

Use the pitch shifting fuction of Adobe Audition. It works just as good as an octave pedal

Or you can use Audacity. My friend did it once (played bass on the guitar, and then shifted pitch using Audacity), and it came out pretty well.

I use Audacity. I tried the pitch shift thing once and it didn't work. It crashed the program and I lost the recording. I think it was a memory problem. I usually have several programs open at once. Think I'll try it again (and maybe upgrade my RAM).

A lot of multifx units ( zoom, digitech, etc ) have the picth shifter option, and you can usually choose the amount of mix. If you set it up to total, it will sound lika a bass. But with a little lag.
Setting the mix about 75% sounds perfect.
I use Fruity Loops for drum and bass. It is easy to program.
There is also another good option with Jammer Pro, where you can write the song and chosse the bass type and then export the midi tracks to Fruity Loops. Add some good soundfonts and you got perfect bass sound.

...yeah, I've gotten it to work. I've only tried it once though, but it went fine. I didn't say any magic words or use some fairy dust, I just did the normal thing. Just try to make sure that you don't have too many other programs running...
