Got in about 2:00 am after playin' at a New Years celebration. Went real well. I'm spent, but a couple highlights 'for I crash.

Sound Card took a dump, so no recording. :(
The other musicians played loud. My little Peavey didn't cut it, had to break out the Classic 50 (well worth doing).
There was about 4" of snow on the ground when I left. Icy road on the way home, but made it safely.

I'll post some more tomorrow. Time for bed (then after a while I'll have to get up and go home). :toohappy:

Memorable though huh? Yeah, sounds like a good time was had there, well for the musicians at least. Glad you made it home safely.

Glad you had fun jamming :color:! I brought my Pro Junior and LP copy to a friends' new year shindig, but not enough people showed up to make it an official jam ... talked a vintage gear dialect with the dad, though .

Thanks guys, yeah I had fun. I was supposed to play a regular (paying type) gig, but the guys that said they needed me got flakey. They couldn't all get together at the same time to practice. Andrea (you may remember her from a post I made last year :) about 'Sound Check'), was supposed to sing for them. Anyway, she talked me into going to the Blues Society New Years Celebration. It turned out real well because usually there are guitar players coming out of the woodwork, and I usually have to hope for a slot of time, but many of them played gigs elsewhere and I got to play almost all night.

The other guitarist had a Peavey 5150 (120 watts), and the bass player was using an SWRsound Workingman 15 (200 watts), and I took my Peavey Blazer (15 watts) - which usually is fine, but I couldn't even hear it this time. Just by chance I had the Peavey Classic 50 in the car. I don't normally like to take it because they always tell me to 'turn it down'. Well, last night when they told me to turn it down I nodded my head like "ok", and touched the volume knob on my SG and made sure it was all the way up :) .

The other guy on guitar was a talented rock guitarist. Fast, sang some, and knew a lot of songs. I felt warm and fuzzy inside when during a break a woman from the audience told me "he's a good guitar player, but he doesn't feel the blues. I saw you up there, and you got it".

The best compliment is not words though. It's when people get up and start dancing. We had that dancefloor hoppin'!

There were a couple other guitarists there, and about 11:30 I got off the stage to let them up. One of the songs they did was House of the Rising Sun. I like that song, and I've been playing it since forever. I have found that (so far) I am the only person I know that plays it the same way as the Animals. That is, after each verse I go to C, D, F, Am, E, Am, E and back to the beginning. Whereas these guys, and everyone else it seems, skip most of that and just go to E and back to Am to start the next verse. Drives me nuts. But they had fun too. Overall, we all had a good time. Sure beats gettin' drunk!

t_shirt, it might have been the drinkin', but the audience had as much fun as we did. Like I said, the dancefloor was hoppin'. That doesn't happen much at the club I go to.

Brendan, I envy being able to talk to yer Dad about music/gear and stuff. I got to jam with my Dad once. He played organ church type music. Our tastes in music were very far apart. It's a long story, but I didn't get to meet him until I was 36, then he passed away when I was 40. I enjoyed the time we had together though.

That sounds really awsome, my new years was just sitting at home watching movies (didn't feel like going to any parties that night). I really wish I could have people to jam with, there is only one guy I know and he plays keyboard but we only meet like once every 2 months :(

Im glad ya had fun :D Wish ya could have got a recording though :p

Yeah, I was all set up for recording, my laptop was powered up, mics in place, mixer and everything all hooked up, and my USB soundcard fizzled out. I'll be getting a new soundcard - I'm thinkin' a M-Audio 1010LT, and use my tower next time I record.

A good time was had by all anyway!

Sounds like it was a good time had by all. While we're on the subject, any crazy New Years stories out there?

I was able to see a bunch of old friends and acquaintences (bad sp) while sifting through USC frat-asses. "DUDE, WATCH ME POUND THIS BEER!" "DUDE, YOU KICK ***!" (followed by high five and U-C-L-A SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS!). But as they lay passed out in the kitchen, I was hooking up with the girl I had a crush on in high school. :_devil:
