I think you will have to go with your gut feeling on this one.

On one hand (no pun intended) the guitar might be just the type of therapy you need t5o get back in control of your left hand. On the other hand, it might be easier for you to just play lefty and get on with the buiness of learning to play.

Tony Iommi is a lefty. He had some type of serious injury to his left hand. Crushed, broken, or something. Man, he still can kick some serious backside.

He ripped the tips off the middle and ring fingers of his fretboard hand while trying to operate a sheet metal press on his last day of work before heading to Germany to do some gigs.

Jerry Garcia had half a middle finger.

Hey Stone Does Iommi were plastic tips on the fingers that were hacked? Also I have a friend (mentioned befor on this site) that lost the ring finger of his left hand at the first knuckle. It blew his mind and his band broke up. After a couple of years he started playing again. He is in my opinion the best slide player in this city. Touch, Tone and Feel.

tazzy77:
I had an accident about 14 years ago that tore apart (internally) my left middle finger pretty badly. My options were rehab or surgery. Surgery was a guaranteed 40% loss of mobility, rehab was an estimated 15-20% loss. I went with the rehab. And playing gutar was part of that. I cleared it with my physical therapist first, but they were in favor of me playing again when I was able to move it again, which took a couple months.

Playing might be just the thing to get you mobile again. But check with the Dr. first.
