Fret?

I've always wanted to learn the guitar so I'm finally doing it,but I have no idea what
a fret is???

Technically speaking... frets are the metal strips that go across the fingerboard that you hold the strings down on. Fret is short for "fret wire". Guitar makers buy this stuff in a big roll and just snip off what they need.

More practically speaking.... guitar players usually think of the "fret" as the space between the metal strips where you actually place your fingers.
