Oh sixstring made the forum? Now I get it. Cool, though, one thing every accoustic guitarist needs is reassurance, especially when they're going through their "is the accoustic as good as the electric" phase.

Like today!!!! I just heard some amazing stuff on electric. Now i want one. BUT i don't have money and i love my acoustics. PLus, my fingers hurt, and i have one of those days, where u really want to play, but can't come up with anything GOOD too play. It's such a bad feeling.

I don't think you can even begin to compare acoustic to electric, I have both and it is like two different worlds to me...
It's like I use one when I am in one mood and the other when I'm in another....
Kind of like playing two different instruments

couldn't agree more... Acoustic is definately more portable and more raw than electric. I'm in the same boat and have both... I play mostly on my acoustic and use the electric for when I have a special project ie a song that has both clean and distortion parts to it...

Ya, that's true...
You can still take the electric with you if you wanna practice or play unplugged though.
Or, get a small amp to carry along...

I have two electrics, 2 acoustic 6s, a 12 and a bass.
easily 90% of time is on the acoustics. Electric is certainly much less a solo instrument than an acoustic.

I would like to live in your neighbourhood...instead the incessant drone of a lazy mower on a hot sunday, you hear an axe being played full volume, complete with doppler effect!
Stuff the grass clippings...yer guitar can act as a compost bin when not in use!

New 2 da site. So far, just got one Taylor 810 acoustic. Like playing crosspicking bluegrass stuff, just to know I can do at least a couple songs that look complicated to play. Starting to lean toward Doc Watson with his mix of bluegrass and blues, like Deep River Blues. Still getting that one smoothed out. Do a search on Doc and you should find the MP3 for it.

I love doc watson blues. Especially Deep River Blues. My first really hard fingerpicking song. It took me two months or more to learn. A lesson once a week. My teacher played... i learned it by ear and by listening to waht she was playing. It was so much fun to learn. I have never tried to tab it out. It'd take me hours!

watsup acoustic players, Yeah, if you guys can't tell by my name, I think Breedlove's are the best guitars ever made, and if you've never heard of them go check em out. Seriously, you'll be blown away by the tone. I've got an AC25/SR Plus and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy everytime I strum it. Go to their website, guaranteed you'll love em. P.S. and I'm not some guy who works for them or anything, I must sound like it huh. Heeheehee...

New recruit here...maybe not experienced enough to call myself a guitarist but I find myself falling more and more in love with my acoustic by the day.
I've been scouring the boards for a few months now and the community seems very helpful, cheerful and mature...I think I'm going to like it here!

I'm new here and I've only been playing for 2 years. I started on electric, and I still love to rock, but this summer sucked the lamas ******* so I've been playing my acoustic alot. I seem to only play sad or love songs on the acoustic. This summer the girl I love got really sick...and my dog died...so I feel that my guitar saved my life. I used to get deperesed but now I take those feelings and play and the pain goes away. I will never put down my guitar.
I'd have to agree with "doggybiscuit" (killer name)...everyone here seems really great. Wheather new or old, beginner or veteren, everyone seems respectful and this is the best guitar forum I've seen.
ROCK ON!!!
"GuitarownzU"...I just bought a 12 string & it sounds so sweet and hypnotic.
I made a new post asking if anyone knows any good 12string songs. Please post in it and give suggestions.

hi everyone, please bear with me i am new to this, i would like some advice or suggestions please, i have recently bought a gibson J-200 copy, the decal that was on the headstock was crumbling away so i removed it completely, now it has left an indent where it was, so basically all i want to do is put another decal in it's place, but not sure where to start, any advice would be helpful, many thanks.
and i dont know how to put a picture of the headstock on as well.

Welcome to the place. :) And I don't know if you have already or not, but you'll probably get better response if you post your own thread, either in "Getting Started" or the Equipment forum. Many people don't read old threads like this. ;)
Oh, and be sure to tell them what kind of guitar you have. Changing the strings depends on how much you play and several other things. But if you've ever had brand new strings and then hear old ones, you'll pick out the difference easily. As far all that, make your own thread, there are no stupid questions here

When I started, I could not wait to get an electric so I could stop playing my acoustic. Then after I got my flying V, I keep going back to my acoustic. Mostly because I keep running into problems with my electric, but also because people say "hey when you go out with us bring your guitar" and you can't plug in an amp at the beach or around the campfire. I was sorta pushed into my acoustic by the world, so I went out and bought a good acoustic guitar. It's a Tanglewood 145SC.

I want a better acoustic guitar. I've had an Ovation Celebrity cc24 but it's pretty much a piece of crap. I want either a Taylor or a Martin. I've more experience playing Martins though.

I have an Acoustic Ibanez PF. I'm just a sucker for the acoustic sound, but i do have an electric and not afraid to use it. Does anyone have a favorite song that they like to play especially on their acoustic? I can never get tired of playing "With Arms Outstretched" by Rilo Kiley

Little late on this but oh well. I bought an Alvarez PD80S around Late Feb/Early March and it's been great! I don't know which I enjoy more now, playing the Strat or the Alvarez. Nothing beats just picking up the acoustic and being able to start playing on a dime.

I have two acoustics and play both daily. I keep one in my office and one on the other side of the house. Been gassing for an electric, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a third acoustic instead.
My Yamaha sounds good a step down, it's kinda bright in open E, so I want a guitar that sounds a bit more full in open E than the Yamaha.
Now if I can find one under 2K (way way under) that I can afford that will be cool.

Friend of mine has a Gibson, and Telecaster.
He has an Alvrez acoustic and Ibenez hollow body electric. Both were under $800.00 with cases
Plays the Alvarez at home for enjoyment, and The Ibenez when he jams with friends. Both sound far better than the Gibson and Telecaster.
I loved my Tele until I picked up his Ibenez and The Alvarez.

Thanks for the tip Jim. I have been looking at catalogs that come in the mail which seem to only list $2000 to $5000 guitars. Guess they were printed before the economy went bust?
If I can get what I want around 700 or 800, the wife might be on board. But then again, shopping on price is likely a bad idea. I'll have to actually go play something. I'll make sure I look for those brands.
Thanks

We are fortunate in the area where I am located. We have two shops where the prices are the same as the catalogs. Usually, I search Musicians Friend for brands, styles, and such. Then, I go to the store and play something off the wall.
I order from the catalog only when the color is not available in house.

Alvarez guitars are a huge bang for the buck. I own a few.
If you haven't yet, get a pro setup on that thing and you'll love it even more.

I have an Alvarez 6 string and an Epi 12 string.I jam with the hippy next door so my Alvarez get plenty of use.The Epi 12 really has a nice sound when it's in tune which is a chore for me.I also have 4 Strats,a1966 & a 1969 Mustang,A jag-stang,a Mercury,3 semihollows(a Canvas,1old jap & an Epi EA-250),a hacked up strat with retrotrons and a few others I can't remember right now.
I sniped the Alvarez on ebay with a HS case and a D markley bucker for just over $100.Well worth it,I like it much better than a Takamine but not as much as the Johnny Cash sig Martin I played when I visited their factory.
My apologies for the long winded post.

I have an Ibanez AC30NT ArtWood acoustic that I play on a regular basis and I just got a Takamine G-Series acoustic-electric 12 string that I have been unable to put down since picking her up for 30% off from Manny's on 48th Street (New York) which is going out of business. I'm loving this new axe!

you are right about the whole alvarez being good for the money. I played my friends and it has a really nice sound to it. I still prefer my martin d-1 over his alvarez though.
