I play a Dean Daytona. It is a total beginner guitar. List your accoustic equipment and give a brief review. I am in the market for an electric accoustic combo. Give me some guidance.

Here is my 7 string acoustic. It is an Ibanez AJ307 with a 3 band eq and peizo pickup. As you can see, it has had it's share of use. I haven't owned many acoustics...but this is by far the nicest sounding and playing acoustic I have owned.

I have 3 acoustics.
First is a nice big dreadnought I got from a 2nd hand guitar shop. Its by Encore. Very nice indeed, a good quality acoustic guitar. I fit it with phospor bronze strings.
Second is another similar acoustic guitar, I got this one from... a charity shop. I saw it while walking past, and decided to get a 2nd acoustic just there. Its a Squire. It was in bad shape, but I fixed it up, raised the action, and its now very nice. I fit this one with extra light bronze strings, so its different to play to the other. So I have one light and one heavy.
Third I have a little classical guitar which I fitted with steel strings. Before anyone says, I know its bad for the guitar, and I wont be too suprised if the neck breaks tomorrow. But it cost me a tenner, ok? And surprisingly it sounds bloody good... so I dont just play it for a joke, but because I value its sound.
Yeah, acoustics aren't my passion, so Im not bothered with getting good quality ones. But these three are good enough for me, very nice.

I don't have one right now, but I play my dad's '70s era Sigma. It's very nice.
I'm yearning for a Garrison acoustic right now, one of the ones that's made in Newfoundland with the fiberglass bracing and all, and that has a cutaway and a Fishman pickup.

I have a Taylor 110 Acoustic, sounds great for the money... lacking a little on the low end sound for some people but I like it.
As for you (thread starter)... I think Takamine makes some of the best value acoustic electrics, but I dont know your price range.

Yes, the 110s are lacking in low end for me, but still they are incredibly beautiful sounding instruments. I also find Tak's to be lacking in low end.

Yea taks are known for being a little more high end oriented... thats just their style i guess.
Still, this is a great acoustic/electric for the price imho: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=guitar/search/detail/base_pid/516442/

Right now I have a Dean Radiant, SX DG120/TBR and a Cordoba FCWE. I use the SX the most because it is the lightest and easiest to handle also has a great tone. I keep hearing a lot about the Agiles and the tremendous value you get. Supposed to have good sound and great quality for the buck.

GuitarGretta, your onto it. I too have an ovation and a takamine. Both are beuties. But as far as suggestions go, what ever it is you get, try out the Elixir strings. There about $40 a set but will last 10 times as long as others and the sound is fantastic.

I 2nd the elixar strings. They are the only ones I use because they outlast the others by 2 to 3 times. I think you can get them for between 10 and 12 per set.

I didnt like the elixars, the sound was great, but they felt to slick under my fingers. My finger felt like they were sliding off of them.

I'd always thought Elixir strings were for, err, girly-men that couldnt take the feel of 'normal' strings. That coupled with the price of them has kept me far far away from Elixirs.

Here's another happy Takamine owner. Mine is a small body (00) EF261 and I love it. It doesn't have a lot of low end, but sting bends on E,B or G are so pretty sounding, nobody cares about the low end. Besides, aren't bass players supposed to do those low notes?
The best thing about this guitar is, it is handy. It is almost impossible to walk by it without picking it up. This is a good thing for extra practice time, not good for the honey-do list my wife keep on the fridge.

ahh lol i thought you meant as in build quality n all :o
mine plays beautifully and everything on it is perfect not a single defect at all, the actual electronics are fishman so not actually ibanez made, my 12 string has built in phaser which makes it sound huge when plugged in :D

I have no idea where you got this Cr$%% about elixir's being girly strings?????? Do you believe that they are softer than other strings or something!!!!!!! or do they come complete with belt and matching shoes?????????? he he

Hehe, no, it's that "flexoweb" coating or whatever they call it. And many sites I have been to reccomend them to beginners for being "easier on tender fingers" and crap like that.

anyone know how easily you can switch from Elixirs back to "normal" strings. My Uncle got pretty hooked on this stuff called "FingerEase" back in the 80s. It was like non-stick spray for your strings. Poor guy couldn't play without it, eventually it got so bad he lost everything (not really). Anyway I like just normal fat/thick gauge strings that make me feel the "love" through my callouses

Ibanez PF6-NT. Started out as a little $170 junker, but after properly setting it up, putting in a bone nut and sadle, replacing the pins with ebony, and sticking some bronze phosphor (Gimmie those over Elixers any day), it outplays anything in a guitar store under $700 guranteed.

I have my Schecter Diamond Acoustic with 4bandEQ and Fisman Piezo pup. Marvellous guitar, neck is like a slim LP's, composite shallow bowl back it has a very unique sound. Cost £270 and was a present of my dad. Great for slide and finger picking.
I also have a Lorenzo dreadnaught, £90 special. Has a nice deep sound I just put Martin Extra lights on it and sounds f******* amazing I hohnestly could not believe the difference they made on a dreadnaught so easy to play now. They seem to balance the mids and highs against the guitars natural bass perfectly.
I also have my cheapo mandolin which needs to get burnt. It never stays in tune and smells like poo. A wasted £80.

feel of play.
basically I love acoustic
Belle
and to the person who started this thread look at lots of different guitars and find the one that feels best to you.

This is my guitar, a Breedlove Acoustic-Electric AC25/SR PLUS. It's wonderful. I got mine for about 700, but usually they're a little more (I bargained with Musician's friend. :D) I would recommend it with all of my being, because I love this guitar so much (as my name shows so well). If you're interested go to Breedloveguitars.com, they're so freakin awesome.

I recently bought a Simon & Patrick SP6 + CW spruce. I think it's a great guitar.. It has plenty of bass, regardless the cutaway, and the treble tones are fine too :) sounds great unplugged (loud enough and all..) and amplified it sounds good too, it keeps its aoustic tone very well, even trough my marshall valvestate, which isnt an acoustic amp.
so I really like it, and it wasn't expansive:)
Edit: oops.. somehow I managed to post this twice, only the first time without pics... I only see it now sorry guys :)

Ahhh, you are a sufferer of Repetitive Crappy Mandoitis...you remember what happened to the last one... ;)
I bought a Blue Moon Mando from Ebay...here's one listed on Hobgoblin one of my favourite music stores in the Uk...
http://www.hobgoblin.com/local/contfram.htm
Anyway, it stays in tune nicely...amazinly...bizzarely, and thank God, but unfortunately, it has no truss rod...
I store the thing on it's back, so the neck doesn't have any pressure on it...
I've also learnt to tune it verrry verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry slowly, as the strings break easily, especially when I yank the tuning peg round like I do with my guitar...

Regarding the elixirs, they come in two versions with different coating. A nanoweb and polyweb. The poly is the slick type that people complain about (personally, I like it... much easier to play on). The nanoweb is a much much finer coating and you can hardly tell a difference between them and uncoated strings. And if your looking for a cheap guitar, seriously, try the alvarez RD20 series. I cant believe how good things sound, better than most anything at the local shop and all for around $150. Solid spruce top, laminated mahogany back and sides. Look at these crazy reviews, I gotta convince at least one person on here to give these things a try. http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data4/Alvarez/RD20-1.html. It can come with or without electronics, right handed/lefthanded, etc. God I love it.
