I am a Gov't Mule fan.. so here are some pics of Allen Woody's (RIP) basses.

I am trying to procure a pic of the six string bass that was half fretted/half no fret...

I wish I can find a picture of this bass.. There is a guy in New Jersey (northern) who hand carves these custom bass guitars that look like cobras & dragons! The eyes light up and they are really works of art! As far as i can recall he makes these all by himself. Wish I could remember his name!!! I tried to google a few things, but came up empty.. I'll keep trying, never seen anything like them.

Thanks for sharing these, thereal7. My favorite hangout for the good, the bad, and the ugly in bass guitars is the BunnyBass Amusing Bass Gallaria (http://www.bunnybass.com/e-zine/amusing/amusingindex.shtml) -- in fact, you can find a picture of a matte-finished Ritter Jupiter on page 37. Y'all might enjoy flipping through the pages, there's some pretty wild stuff there. :)
Cheers,

^ That Ritter is a coooooool guitar... input on the back? That's nifty, the whole guitar just looks like perfect from the front, no knobs, no holes, nothin.

I'm not sure how practical it is to have the controls recessed into the back of the body... I can't imagine how you could quickly reach behind and make a change. On the other hand, most of the time my controls get left wide open anyway, so maybe it's not much of an issue if you're just changing p'up selection between songs or somesuch.
Check out where the neck's bolted to the body... you'd never have to worry about that neck working loose! :D
I'm all for people experimenting with new designs like this. Stuff stays too stagnant otherwise. Yeah, there are going to be failures and outrageously ugly or unplayable stuff, but that's just part of the bargain. My hat's off to Mr. Ritter and to all the others who are open-minded enough to try new stuff like this. (By the way, there's an interview with the creator (http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131369) online that's kind of interesting.)
Speaking of "different," one of my favorites over at Bunny Bass is the Bender Collision (http://www.bunnybass.com/e-zine/amusing/amusingbass27.shtml). :p Put a straight neck on it and it'd be playable, and I almost would like to have one just for the fun factor. :)

P.S. I agree about the wood on the nine string!
