Post any non-standard tunings here. What songs you use them for, or any other reason you like the tuning.

I'll put some in later.

Ab Db Ab Db Gb Bb

its just really obscure and by using normal powerchords you get a cool sounding chord

I LOVE doing drop 'D' tuning for bluegrass work and a bunch of other stuff too. I've also tried tuning to open D and really couldn't find much to do with it. Actually I didn't look too hard. Just too much to do in regular tuning for me to worry with messing with it too much..............

E A D A D E

D G C G C D

Same tunings but the second one has the E A D strings and the high E down a step first to avoid taking the B string all the way to C. I have never broken a string doing that but I have broken strings tuning down too fast before.

BTW it's how I play the rain song. I hear he plays it in standard tuning too.

I always tune my cheap "carton box" acoustic
to drop D and then a everything another half step down.
Must be kinda like this (correct me if I'm wrong) Cb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb
Kinda sounds like the old blues tones I really like (Big Joe Williams, Leadbelly,...)
If I tune i regulary you can hear it's a piece of crap
(wich is actually good 'cause I like to take it along on every vacation
so I don't have to mind)

P.S.: can someone start a thread with some nice acoustic tabs

DADGAD is a good one, mostly for acoustics and when i play it i have no idea what the hell im playing!

The thing I really love about odd tunings is that they change the sound of the guitar enough that it tends to make me more creative. I find that I get into a rut with standard chord shapes in standard tuning, but retuning opens up a whole new world.

I love that song! It's an absolutely fantasic example of how great Page is as a composer. I've played it before but I did use standard tuning.

This is a cool tuning I fiddled about with:

D A D F# B E

It's cool cause it spells a D69 so all the open string harmonics sound really nice together. I also like the drop-d part cause you can play three note power chord with one finger.

I actually used it on a version I did of "Little Drummer Boy" for a United Way Christmas CD.

FADGAD is totally bizzare, but you can play some totally random finerings, and because of the weird intervals, it sounds cool. i'd use it it your just noodling though, it gets confusing....

Ditto!

This one is very cool using harmonics. I wrote several songs with it.

D A D F# B D
