I recently went to this shop and they sold kits for all sorts of musical stringed instruments. And one of the kits they had was Dreadnought guitar, it was $375 and would take about 40 hours to build they said. They also said that if you build it properly, it will be worth $900-$1000 dollars when your done. Thats pretty good income if you sold it! Yeah it does take 40 hours but still, would be a nice project to do, and you could either keep it or make a $525+
Could they really sell for that much, seems high to me?

I think they're kidding themselves...
If you spend that much on an instrument, it'll be one that's professionally assembled by a reputed manufacturer using precision machinery (or handmade) it would be one that had been played before I bought and would come complete with warranty...
One thing I would not do, is buy one from some backyarder who slapped it together because it's something they wanted to do...
But then again, the last idiot hasn't been born yet :D

I doubt that anyone would buy a guitar for 1000 bucks, if he knew, that it's someone first build.
Nonetheless I think it would be a great experiance - building your own guitar. Even better if you didn't use a kit, but built it from scratch.

i'd really like to build one from scratch, but i'm lacking in workspace. if i were to do it, i'd do it this summer on my roof ( i live in teh city)
i found two great sites for building your own though,
this one's a wood site,
http://www.jemsite.com/axes/htm_features/wood.htm
and this one's a great building site in general.

If I had the time and money and space I'd try this but that aint the case at the moment. and besides this sort of work, I would'nt be great at! I do want an acoustic to compliment my electric though! HE HE!

I'd rather spend 20 hours doing something productive, another 20 hours screwing around, and just pay cash for a guitar that's ready to play.

Sounds like a fun hobby. I'd rather buy a guitar. Don't think there's a profit in the do it yourself unless you're going to be the next Martin Guitar Company....
