I love to draw, I have just started doodling again and dug out all my old pictures and stuff, I think it would be cool to see some other people's stuff. I think I will just photograph some tonight and get them on the here. By art I mean everything, photography, sculpture and drawing/painting anything you like.
If you all think this is a bad idea though, we can let the thread die.

I drew this in high school for an 'art' project and I was so sick of art by this time that I drew this out of spite, and it stated "Save Our Burds", we had to use construction paper for each part instead of painting or using crayons (or whatever) and I just went stupid on this............and my art teacher asked if it could go on display in a local mall for the ecological whatever that was going on and I said "WHAT??? You serious? Sure, go ahead...." and she did, won 2nd place but I never collected my pic or my ribbon. Just too far gone by then. Anywhooter here is the rough draft of the stupid burd....

I have a bunch of pieces that I have to scan in. I went and tried tonight but the scanner was acting up so I'll try again tomorrow. Til then, here's two or three. Not my best, but the only ones I had on my computer. They were photographed with a digital camera, and I fixed them up a little bit with photoshop (color, flash, etc.) but I didn't try real hard and I apologize for the quality.

Like yours, WhatevaC, the 3D modeling and stuff. How do you do that?
WhatevaC
April 8th, 2005, 11:00 PM
Well you have to have some 3D software to do that - 3ds max, maya, lightwave, XSI are the most popular. If you can't afford it, I suggest you to try wings3d - it's a free and very capable. Here is one very strange head without eyes I did in wings, not the best example http://ic1.deviantart.com/images2/i/2004/03/7/6/speedmodel.jpg . Basic idea to 3D modeling is starting out witha simple cube or plane, than adding vertices to it, moving those vertices, than adding more vertices, moving them, and so on. To make something like my car models you have to manually move thousends of those vertices, very time consuming at first. When I made that NSX it took me only 4 days - it's considered very fast ( usually takes couple of weeks or even months)

0.1 watt how did you get all your photos to look kinda pshcadellic. your stuff is amazing, please tell me how you did that because i kinda want to get into that stuff
Ok you need to think about balancing the contrasts of the colours/tones. I got the mixes by creating layers. These layers either formed a boundary tightly around an object for emphasis, or formed a geometric shape around that area. I try to find the main point of focus in a picture and, well, focus on it! To direct the viewers eye around the page you need to be able to position things effectively
On some of my photos I pasted up to 3 different pictures over each other (like the graveyard ones). Each layer was given a certain amount of transparency to allow the viewer to see the layer underneath.
To make the pictures psychedelic you need to use strong complimentary colours. The important factor is contrast, and raising it to the extreme values adds a so-called 'pop art' feel. As long as the colours are bright and look good against each other then it should be good.
When modifying a photo, think of the above. When you think a picture is done, its done, and don't try to cram anything else into it. Also remember that its all down to your personal taste.

That's a cool drawing Ranger.
t_shirt, you can use the "Paint" program (if you have a PC) to resize your pics. Start/All Programs/Accessories/Paint (I think that's where it is). Then it should be in the Edit menu.
I used to draw a lot, but not since I got back into playing my guitar. Here's something I did when I was thinkin' of a design for the headstock on a guitar build.

Your GF has a real tallent. Has she ever considered doing illustrations for books? I think the biggest market is in childrens book - of course in that case she'd have to tone down the gore aspect :D But I think she has a really well developed ability to express herself through her art. Wow, thanks man.... I'll have to show her this. I tell her she has a real gift and she should do more with it. Sahara Sister was the last one she did. She was 'invited' to do some work at this new club opening up, but we haven't heard anything yet. She has a picture at the local coffee shop too. We talked about getting shirts made with some of the pictures... personally I'd love to have one with A Walk In The Sunshine.... that's my fav.
I have to get a picture of this one we have on our wall, it's about 7 feet tall and 3 feet wide. It's a really cool picture of this creepy looking guy with the moon and snow and everything.
Thanks again for the compliments, she will be giddy as a school girl to hear that. :D

Here's one I did in High School... my mom framed it (?), now I have it again. It's Al Pacino. It's really a pointillism type thing, made up entirely of tiny little V's

I did the box and internal art for Army Men Sarges Heroes 2 (above) as well as Army Men Air Attack 2 and also Firepro Wrestling. Each for various systems, PS2, Nintendo etc. I've also done a fair amount of internal stuff for various game companies including things like storyboarding a Final Fantasy/Visa commercial and some 3d work for Digital Extremes for their game Dark Sector, which has yet to be released. The sniper rifle I did is below, and a few other things.

All in all I'd rather be playing guitar though. :)

Erm, wow! If you don't mind my asking, how would one get into work of that nature? :)

I am a sophomore in highschool :) that was all done during april i would say.
DAtter, all those looks as if they wre used with a 3d program or something, Do you do painting with photoshop? If so how long did it take you to master it?

All of the above was done with a mix 3dsmax and Photoshop. I've been working in the industry in some form or other since 1997 or so... I guess that makes me old. :)
Best way to get into this line of work is to develop yourself on two fronts... technical and creative. One has to be able to use a given piece of software effectively, and also to be able to use it creatively. The only way to learn the software is to use it, whether that's through a school program or via self teaching depends on what works for you. Personally, I taught myself. As for creativity... get a sketch pad and some pencils and start drawing. There's no substitute for a piece of paper. :)
Once you're technically able to use the software (whatever it might be) and creative enough to actually produce with it then get a portfolio/demo reel together and shop yourself around. That, or go the contractor route, which is what I did/do.

That's probably not your lack of artistic ability, but more of the fact that you're trying to make something GOOD in paint. That's a pretty damn hard task if you ask me. If you want to get into digital design then "Buy" ;) Adobe Photoshop CS2. All you really do is like Datter said, just experiment, create what you like, get feedback from people, take classes, read tutorials online.
Actually tutorials online are probably your best bet for just starting off. They will give you an idea of how everything works. If you do get into it, post some stuff up Daisy :)
Datter - I used to do ALOT of merchandise for local bands and stuff. I really didn't see it going anywhere, but man I envy you for being able to do something with your abilities :) sick art + good game haha

I draw literally about 3 hours a year.
These were done on drawrings site (using a rudimentary Java version of MSPaint):

I did this several years ago for a girl I liked (a portrait of her). Second time I ever drew with pencil:

Accually, maybe I'll post some of my photos... I take excellent pictures if I do say so myself.
My drawings are Anime/Manga, so I don't know if you guys will like it. :P I hope so anyways.
And BTW you guys are AMAZING drawers! :notworthy

Thanks. My mom and my sister are amazing artists, and I'm pretty sure I have the capacity to learn to draw proficiently myself. I just do NOT have the patience for it. I spent 6 hours on that portrait, and one time previous about 3 hours doing a pencil drawing...
I would rather be doing other things than drawing!
So, I appreciate art. I look at stuff and think I could probably do it, but it would take forever, so I don't even try :p
