Am looking to get some serious variations on my right hand strumming patterns... (I've identified it as a weakspot) I use fingers when I play, not a pick and have heard some really nice strum/fingerpick combos. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them...

try this excercise. pick a scale.

play 851, as in the 8th note of the scale, the 5th, then the 1st (octave lower thhan the 8th)

then play 87851, 8787651, and hten 87654321.

it's a good excercise

Try flamenco style for one, using a fan strum type sequence.

I have one that kinda goes like a song by Chicago (Listen to the Music I think is the name), but I use only my index finger flicking over the strings in a syncopated strum style that I can ONLY do with that finger, not a pick, or thumb, but just my index finger.

Or like thumping the bass strings to the chords with your thumb and strum with the other fingers, kinda 'slap 'n' pop' on bass but only on your geetar.

There are so many variations to strumming with hands only that it would take pages.

Oh, and one I really love is kinda arpeggiated like, I go down (or up) the bass strings with my thumb and then pull back up (or down) on the treble strings with my other fingers and makes for interesting fingerstyle sounds but too fast for fingerpicking (if ya know what I mean).

That is what bothers me. When i'm composing, i have a nice sounding chord or something, but i can never get an interesting picking position or an interesting strumming pattern. I normally just play what i feel. Close ur eyes, and try to feel a good pattern. It'll come to you then.

Where would I learn this?

It's not somthing you learn its somthing you feel. Fool around until you find somthing you like and do it.

I used to always use a pick, But it was when i was playing guitar at my friend's house and they never have any picks around, I started using my fingers.
I've just sort of developed my own style, not really by doing any exercises...Now I barely ever use a pick.

The only exercise I'd say would be to just learn a lot of different songs, and see what happens.
