Well i play both ways depending on what works best for the song. I guess playing with my fingers is my natural style but i find with the band that using a pick works best mostly. Using a pick is great for heavier songs where you need to hammer out a riff or keep solid 8ths going. I find i can get a better groove however when i am playing with my fingers and will always improvise with my fingers. When i am playing songs that have a quite complicated line i will usually prefer to play with my fingers. As i have said before i basically just do what works best in the song

Oh btw it won't let me vote for both

I pluck mostly, but with my dad I pick three songs. One is Tempted, another is Rave On, and I can't remember the other one. But I always palm mute when I pick, it gives such a THUMP sound. I don't like unmuted bass picking.

Used to pick, now it's fingers only, well, and the thumb too :p

I hate using a pick to play bass.

I say play what sounds good in the song. Sometimes I need a smooth tone so I play with the fingers. But if I want something bright and sharp to really punch through I use a pick. As a matter of fact although I primarily play with my fingers I usually have a pick on me for when I need it. It is all about what sounds good intsead of a one way or the other thing for me.

I like to pluck my pick outta my coin pocket. Sometimes I'll pick pluckin' as a method of playin'.

I hate to use finger-picking picks. I'll use bare fingers for that. Then I like to use a flat-pick for other stuff.

jsyk, I can't :)

I try to fingerpick as much as possible. There's very little you can't do with your fingers that you can do with a pick, and there's a whole lot more you can do with your fingers that you can't with a pick!

OOOOPS! :o

I used "Today's Posts" and didn't realise this is for bass. :D

How about a felt pick? Now that would really suck. What do people use those for?
