Call me old fashioned, but there is nothing nicer than a crisp sweet twang of fingernail against steel, sounded by some nice tonewood...I have been listening to some of the offerings on the site and am blown away by the sheer talent!
I have been hanging round Open Mic for a bit, and have found this site very encouraging- and has helped me love my guitar more!

About 30 years ago, a female on an accoustic guitar would've been about the lowest form of guitar entertainment on the chain. Sad kinda...
But that's changing! Woo-hoo! And we musn't forget female accoustic pioneers such as Nancy Wilson and...
:confuse: Um, does anyone know any others?

Dolly Parton, lots and lots of country stars (women that is), was playin' and a sangin' and a writin' 40+years ago!!! She was one of the stars on Porter Wagner show with Speck Roads (Rhodes?) as well as many other greats. Charo has also been at it for a long time doing flamenco and spanish style fingerpicking music and she is awesome!!!
My grandma taught all her kids how to play guitar back 70+years ago and up until she was in her 70's, she passed away in 1986 at the age of 75 and I only found out she played when my uncle gave me a tape of her and grandpa and my dad, uncles and aunts, cousins all playing and singing! She was the guitarist on the whole tape!!!! I wish I'd known back then, not after she had passed. Bummer.

:confuse: Um, does anyone know any others?I wouldn't call Joan Baez or Buffie St. Marie low forms of guitar entertainment. You don't remember 30 years ago, I do. Some other women guitarists you might want to check out are Maybelle Carter, Bonnie Raitt, Rory Block, Gaye Adegbalola, Del Rey, Deborah Coleman, Debbie Davies, Etta Baker, Ann Rabson, Sue Foley, Shannon Curfman, etc.
They didn't have "Rock 'n Roll" yet when Maybelle Carter (Johnny Cash's mother-in-law) played the Grand Ol' Oprey. Joan Baez and Buffie St. Marie were folk singers, and the others were/are blues artists.

Note: Susan Tedeschi ;)She is dynamite. One of the best blues artists ever. Singin' and playin' both (she's only 35 though).

Dolly Parton is not a very good example, Tshirts, for two very large reasons... :D :D and not a singin' and a writin'. Shame, though, she was extremely talented tho'.
I think it would be very cool for a female to sell her music because of talent, not because of T*ts and A*se...
Speaking of which, Guitargretta is a lady who sells her music for sheer talent, even though she looks the part. I have not heard any other female guitarists, although I am just young in the folk/classical world....
Look at Lyle Lovett, for example. He does not use his looks to sell his music, if we are talking of the country scene....
