Im in the UK, what age can you legally play gigs? Im 16 and play gigs. So are u planning to use this amp at all live with acoustic drumkit and guitar amps and everything?

The Ashdown MAG range are good for the money. erm... You could look at some Laney stuff and maybe the Fender amps and Warwick amps. Its very hard to find any other stuff in the UK

josh just wait it out and save more money.....yeah that's my answer to EVERYTHING money related. as for bass amps, I'm not so good but why hasn't anyone put out ampeg yet?

or....Gallien-Kreuger (SP?)

or....Yorkville?

as for alex, I haven't seen Ashdown but coming from a bass player, I guess that's real nice too......which is good cuz I have to scout for amps for my bass friend as well.

I just bought the new Ampeg preamp and a Carl Martin compressor. Just plug the bass into the compressor and plug the DI into the recorder. I gurantee you can't go wrong with this. Then get you a power amp and an Avatar 4x10 for when you want to play live.

It would work!

I am really a lead guitarist, but played bass out in a band for a couple of years. I had a HArtke 4000 and bought a Behringer BX something or other, the head that Msucians Friend is selling for I think 219 or something like that. I like the Behringer so much better than the HArtke that I sold the Hartke.

I got an early '70s Fender Bassman 50 head and its matching 2x15 cabinet for $340 USD. Used gear can be really nice...mine distorts beautifully, and it works just as well for guitar as it does for bass. So I'd recommend looking for used gear wherever it is to be found.

stay far away from carvin amps. about 50% (in my limited experience and travels) end up back at the factory for one reason or another. i am a big fan of peavey's smaller pracitice amps and speaker cabinets. their 410 tvx is phenomonal for a budget cabinet. if you're looking to record, look for an xlr output with a ground lift switch in the pre-amp. i also recommend checking out the sansamp bass driver di if you dont actually need an actual amplifier. the di gives you a great sounding xlr feed for the board. i swear by the sansamp line. i spent 6 hours tweaking my tone in the studio once until the producer brought out the sansamp. we had a great tone in 30 seconds with the sansamp.

Go to HArmony Central and read the reviews on the Behringer BX300T bass head. I own one and the reviews are very accurate, they are not overating it at all.
