I wanna get a new electro acoustic, i want it to look and sound good and be a reliable make, maybe something a bit different, i dont wanna get a common looking guitar, also a cutaway is essential.
i have around £350 to spend so post your ideas, thanks :)
Joe-
P.S was thinking about the Epiphone PR5E Electro Acoustic Cutaway, any reason not to. the link is here: CLICK HERE (http://shopping.kelkoo.co.uk/sitesearch/go.jsp?offerId=3930223152401uk546585495&orw)

Welcome, Joe! Hope that you stick around for a bit!
Here is a suggestion...http://www.music123.com/Ibanez-AEL10LEBK-i159604.music
Get it from the US! Currency is 1.80 dollars to the pound, so you get it for half price!
I have an Ibanez AEL, and they are very nice.
Or this?.....
http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~Yamaha-APX-5-A---Natural~ID~496.asp
My mate has an APX, and she has been playing for yonks. It has Nato wood back and sides, which is an alternative to Mahogany (bearing in mind the one you have selected has mahogany back and sides.)
Nato is a poor man's mahogany and does not last as long as mahogany.
When I have more time, I will continue the search, but for now, enjoy the search, and best wishes in your quest!
:D :D :D :D :D

Turner acoustics are sweet.
Last night I fell in love with mine again after playing a friend's yamaha.
Mine cost £300 with a hard case 18 months ago and it sounds & plays better every day.
here's the home page (http://www.turnerguitars.com)
DEFINITELY worth a look

Lovely....made from Ovangkol wood? Flippin' 'eck that is a strong wood, and it is a pain to shape!
Are Turner guitars a United Kingdom company? I really like the look of these solid made guitars. They look like they can survive a nuclear blast and still sound like angels singing. :)

My friends Yamaha electric accoustic is relatively compact and has a cutaway and plays quite nicely. Check one of those out.

It is okay to be picky, Joe- a guitar can potentially last you for the rest of your life...it is a bit like marriage...choose yer life partner carefully, or you will regret it!! :D

Ah yes, but as a student it means you'll have something to eat soup out of!!
Lovely....made from Ovangkol wood? Flippin' 'eck that is a strong wood, and it is a pain to shape!
Yup, the sides & back are as tough as tough stuff, but the front (table?) is spruce and is as soft as butter!! 1st score about 3 weeks from new :( Ah well, it sounds SWEET and plays like a dream.

the Boss & the agency is in the UK. The guitars are made WAAAY over the sea!! The web site has a list of agents. the one I got mine from has since closed, so I'll have to drive 100 miles or so to get a replacement if anything happens to this one, mind you, after playing a few in the shop before I got this one I'd be happy to buy mail order cos the consistancy of quality is so good!!

So, what is the sound quality? woody with treble? High ends and twangy? Low ends and high ends and everything else in between?

ER, it sounds like a nice acoustic?
Not as bright as a 12 string....... not as bassy as .....well...... my bass?
click on soundclick below & listen!!
most of the songs there were recorded with the turner, VERY simply with a microsoft PC mic. A few were recorded with the strat or the 12....
All I have was the turner definitely........ I think!!

I do not know whether you have heard of this Christian artist called Martin Joseph would say that IMHO, you sound like him.
I am humbled beyond all recognition!!!
I LOVE MArtyn Joseph's stuff, & saw him live a few years ago at the Summer Madness festival here in Northern Ireland.
Do you do musical stuff with yer wife?
Some things just aren't to be talked about in public!!!!!
But yes, Gowan has a great Alto voice so she sings with me when I'm leading in church, but she doesn't have any part with the writing process, we'd fight too much!!!! especially when I'm putting in dodgy lyrics!!
She also plays clarinet & a little piano

:o sorry! I wasn't asking a personal question!
Martyn Joseph is COoooooooooooOOOOOOOOooooooooOOOl!!!!!
It is a shame Martyn Joseph wrote "Dolphins make me cry"!!!!!! I snigger when I write this! LOL!
I have seen him live twice, twice in the South West, once at "Spring Harvest".(er...not really my cup of tea we were paid to go, I am more "Greenbelt" and "Glastonbury")
He is sooo great...He admitted that he yells his head off during the first song to warm up his voice...and then he's off!
I loved gazing at the guitars he had lined up at the back...the twelve string, the nylon...once he had a percussionist/backing singer bloke at the back, and the two playing together with harmony parts was sheer bliss...
The great thing about Martyn Joseph is that he seems so humble and vulnerable...he really engages with his audience....
I think that musicians are at their best if they can create a symphony with just their guitar and voice. Perhaps a couple of other musicians, too....
I think it is good when a Christian musician can escape the middle of the road CCM music scene and be brave enough to write songs about everyday life. Somehow the naff factor is diminished.
Wow! Gowan is alto...what a rich voice! It's funny, becuase in some of your songs, I could imagine alto backing vocals.
I am a mezzo alto, which is middle range...I had to hoot a song from "Les Miserables" to my singing teacher the other day....I saw her hurriedly tape up her window and hide all her wine glasses. :D

Yup, I love the "unplugged" concept. The test of a song is can it be played with just one guitar (ok, or piano) and one vocal.
My soundclick site is purely to publish the songs for use in churches. In my (albeit limited) experience, the majority of guitarists (like me!!) don't read music, so posting sheet music would be a complete waste of time. The vocal & guitar gets the idea accross.
The Summer Madness festival does a resource pack which has the chord sheets for about 100 songs and a CD of MP3s of a small band playing a verse & chorus of the songs. While this is a great idea, the mix on the cd had the backing harmonies a little high so it was easy to loose the melody if you weren't familiar with the song. One of the reasons that I don't have her lovely voice on the soundclick site is exactly that. Maybe some day I'll get proper recordings done, and she'll definitely be in there!!
As to your voice I'm sure you're like me in that I'm my own worse critic!! If you were that bad, you wouldn't have a music teacher!!!! Or maybe that should read your music teacher wouldn't have you!!!!!!!!!
Stick together a soundclick, I'd love to hear your playing AND voice!!

:) Cheers, Martin, thanks for the encouragement! :D I have been thinking about posting some music, I try to do my own stuff, but I am mainly studing Michael Raven's stuff...he's a folk artist who lives locally....
BTW, because of family financial commitments and a busy babysitter-mother-in-law, I have very recently stopped the yodelling lessons :( I still try to holler in the car but my youngest kid tries to join in :p
I will take them up again at the earliest opportunity!
I need to get the songs really under me belt so to speak- I want to be able to play them in one take.
I would love to hear the combos of both of you singing...assuming your wife is Irish! I love the Irish singing voice (sinead o connor,Dolores from the Cranberries, U2, etc..)
Do you learn by ear? I have got to the stage when sometimes I can hear what chord is being played and the postion of the capo. I have been thinking of learning to write/read musical notation for ages now, but am afraid it may ruin my ability to hear by lughole...(primadonna!!!!!)
I am really looking forward to tommorow...I am attending a gig in the evening- a local Christian musician is doing a set with a piano, guitar and her lovely voice....ahhhh...
Have you thought about doing a set at the Summer Madness Festival?

We'll get round to it someday but as a sad result of the political landscape here we both missed out on trad Irish music until we had growed up & left home cos we're from the other side of the tracks. Sad really as we're both really into the whole reconciliation thing. According to our passports we're oth British, but in my heart I'll always be Irish, especially if I'm outside the british isles!!

this will be my 3rd year
There is a 24/5 prayer & worship venue that runs (you guessed) for 24 hours for the 5 days of the festival. I've done two already, just me andd the acoustic, though if I get the strat with the piezo pups finished before then....... The first year I was on 6-8am at the end of the first night. loads of teens had stayed up all night and the place looked like a disaster care centre!!! I did 2 hours of silly kids choruses with actions!! Lots of fun!!
Last year I had a daylight slot and was able to play a lot more "adult" sort of stuff.
Haven't seen the rota for this year yet.........

Martin, does Audacity have any midi files preloaded? I am into Tracktion, but won't play with the demo version- I am waiting for the software to be free, as they are releasing v.2
I cannot get the hang of plug-ins- I am am musician, not a computer expert! I like it all there already, in a package!

Excuse me for being a little slow, but does this mean that you both are Irish born? That one is Catholic, one is Protestant?
It made me laugh, a few years ago, before Iraq, that old Blair hotfooted it to N.Ireland to jump on the bandwagon to sort out the peace process!
I know that there was a devolved government formed- and it was disbanded, but Martin, is it still going? There is so much news in the world to access, that one does not even know what is going on in the neighbourhood, so to speak!
Being Irish is probably the most coolest origin to have. I boast of Welsh ancestry... :D
Took a look at "Summer Madness" website- it looks really great!

We're both Anglican(ish) therefore protestant. Both born in the North of Ireland.
From mY surname you can guess there's a bit of Welsh in me too from WWWAAAYYY back, but my Mum's Maiden name was McMillan, so there's some scots in there too.
I don't think audacity does midi (but then I havent tried) I've just used it as a multi track recorder.
As for the NI assembly, they aren't meeting at the minute ( nor have they for about 2 years) but they're still getting paid!!!!! Can I have a job like that please!!!!
There's a huge day of prayer event on the front lawn of the parliament building tomorrow!!

Yes, a cool job indeed...being paid to sit around waiting for the assembly to re-assemble- I would like to be paid for waiting for the Lord's government to begin!
Believe it or not, along my Grandmother's line, I am descended from William Turner, the artist......he had a bit of fun in Wales towards the late 1800's and a few kiddies were born, including my great great something or other...

Naw, Just Kiddin!!
My Aunt (Lynne that we nearly called Isaac after.....) did our family tree a few years back and we linked into the O'Dochertys (the Irish tribal chiefs of Inishowen which is the sticky outy bit on the top left corner of this fair Isle.)
APARENTLY....... when the genealagies were being done in the 13th century or so, it was the monks who could read etc, so thier word was final
Make a decent donation, or promise not to burn the place down for a few years (!) and they'd write you a good one!!
Our family tree through the O'Docherty clan goes right back through Noah intop the "begats" at the styart of the bible. Totally false obviously, but it's great to be able to quote a 800 year old lie!!!!!
