View Full Version : Takamine or Ibanez?

Figure I'm not going to win a Martin or Taylor on the internet anytime soon.
I'm willing to go to about $650.00 for a kickass acoustic/electric cutaway guitar. I don't like Ovations cause I can't park my capo on the headstock, they sound weak, and I hate the curved back. Played my brothers about a week ago.
Anyway, will I get more bang for my buck with a Takamine or Ibanez? The Ibanez AW500CENT looks pretty sweet. But then there's a whole slew of EG Takamines. What's the general consensus?

All taks sound great thru an amp. Cheaper ones sound AWFUL without an amp!!!
Haven't played any Ibanezs
Get round the shops and play both and others.
Don't rule out secondhand. get a $1000 instrument for $600 just because someones knocked the rough edges off it!!

I have both. Actually. I have a cheap *** ibanez, that was amazing to me for over a year or so. Its a good guitar. But, in my experience, i also have a nice new G series tak acoustic/electric cut away. It was like 600 or so list price. ITs a very nice guitar. I'd say, they will all sound basically the same through the amp, with no effects. So, i'd say go with the taks. They are, in my opinion, just better quality.

Which G do you have? There are so many! Also, how does the little control panel compare between the two?

I love my Ibanez, but it's a bit lower in the range than you're looking. I got it on clearence for like $150, it's a PF-NT6. Spruce top, mahogany back / sides / neck, nothing fancy. I put a bone nut and saddle on as well as ebony bridge pins and bronze phosphor strings and it absolutely sings. It will play right along with any $600 in Guitar Center... it's killed by all the expensive Martins and Taylors and whatnot, though.

Roomate has an Ibanez electro/acoustic. Thing sounds and plays greats. Good price on them too.

Go with a Takamine. They have a new guitar out with what they call a "cool tube preamp" and those are supposed to be extremely nice instruments, but rather pricy. I would still check them out.

I played a Tak at a sit-in jam session about a week ago and I didnt like the sound at all. It played ok. We were playing unplugged. I like the sound of my cheapo Dean accoustic better, but maybe it is just what I am used to

Went to the music store yesterday and the sales guy turned me on to Seagull guitars. Really nice guitars! And very affordable. He said the pickup (Godin) is far superior to takamine.

Ah yes, Seagulls are amazing. I believe my favorite is the M6 Spruce with the light finish, but it still doesn't hold a candle to my Ibanez.

Really? What model of Ibanez do you have? Which features are better?

i've never heard of a seagul. This is my tak http://www.takamine.com/?fa=detail&mid=1286&sid=69

I love it to pieces. Just got it too. Although, for some reason, the factor set up wasn't very good. After the summer, i'll get it changed up when the humidity goes down some more. But i love it.

I have seen these Seagull guitars, and they are exotic with a capital TIC. I have just been playing my Ibanez, and I have suddenly got fed up with it.

I've been playing AJ'S Lowden and have to give it back on Sunday.
How do I say sorry to my Turner fort being unfaithful?

Still in one piece, then? Kids haven't "accidently" fallen on it, then? :D
Hey- I have tried the Christian Songwriting site, but it is far too slow for to feed several times a day addiction to forums.
