What's a good cheap 5 string bass to get started on. I don't want a POS, but I'd like to get myself a bass to be able to noodle around on and maybe lay some tracks down on. I guess I'd say under $350 for a price. Any suggestions?

I don't know much about cheap basses but if you do your research you may be able to get an ok used bass on ebay for around 400 bucks. I would do my best to get a used Ernie Ball if you could. Maybe save up an extra few bucks it will be worth it. Trust me. Ithink some of the cheap Ibanez stuff is OK. I think anything you buy for 350 new will probably be a POS.

I recently picked up a brand new Jay Turser 4-string bass with active pups on it for $259. I'm kinda new to bass but this one was recommended by my guitar teacher who is mainly a professional bass player, so I guess I'll take his word for it that I got a pretty good deal. It's different, and I still have an awful lot to learn about it, but it sure is fun to play!

Here's the same one on eBay for 10 bucks less:

You can get a used Fender Jazz bass for around $299. Great bass, especially if you put a Badass II bridge on it. I got a new Badass II on E-bay for $42.
