Bloody nightmare. I got a drummer, and you've heard about this if you've scanned around for my Dont try to be like xyz thread, you would have heard of my drummer.

Get a picture in your head: Animal from the Muppets.

Thats him, basically. Imagine him playing to Stone Cold Crazy (Metallica).

So anyway, he learned a whole book of Metallica songs, we got into the studio, was about to start playing, and he just looked back at me blankly, and I said: Well?

So yeah, anyway, this was my first band, got a bassist in and we did the whole jamming thing.

Whatever we recorded or played sucked.

This drummer, being like Animal, you try to talk to someone and then he's all like BANG CRASH SMASH BOOM. and you just gotta shout at him: "Will you SHUT the **** UP??!"

So one day, we we're playing, well, HE was, and he would NOT shut up, so I went over, took his sticks

and

shoved them down his gob. Down the hatch, ya little *****e. The guy was screaming for ages as he pulled them out. I was busy laughing my *** off as I played Like a Stone on my guitar.

Thats how you get your dumbanus drummer to shut his nut for a few measly seconds.

Its either that or just steal the kit and just sit there as he pushes at you to get off.

^^

This was a pointless story no one will bother to read. I just wasted five minutes of your time. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I don't know if I have the story just right, but that sounds pretty harsh. If you don't like him, you should probably just get rid of him, not scratch his throat up like that.

Odd as it seems, in the band I know (helping out with random things, giving them feedback on what to improve)it's the bassist who won't ever stop playing. Even when the two guitarists are trying to figure out where the song messed up, or they're working on an acoustic piece, he just won't stop.

Our drummer is really cool. If we stop, he stops. He's very dependent on us, which can be bothersome sometimes, but usually it's cool. He isn't just in his own little world making loud noises.

I hate dealing with drummers or other players who won't stop playing while i'm talking. It's like you have to learn sign language if you are going to be in a band.

I find there are two types of drummer the ones with a non-stop GOGOGOGOGO attitude. These people are like plants- they photosynthesize cocaine into their own bloodstreams somehow. They have a limited attention span, usually forget a vital piece of gear at shows, but they can play just as effectivel with hubcaps for cymbals.

Then there's the shy reserved, aw shucks kinda guy. He's just happy you let him in the band. He's socially awkward, and a meticulous perfectionist. Everything has to be just so about his gear and his drum parts and fills etc. He "learns" songs instead of just realizing that as long as he keeps time everything's fine.

I have worked with BOTH kinds. Type A is better. Give him some twinkies, and hang a poster of a naked woman somewhere near the kit. He'll just keep humpin' out those beats like a rabbit chasing a carrot on a string. Type B is worse, you never know what might set him off. All of a sudden something is just "not right" and there's nothing you can do to get his groove back.

I had a type C. Its when they can never jam, very ..............undependable?

lol the guy who believes hes our drummer is such a f***in pain.
okay we were in this little mini-studio; which sucked because none of the programs on the computer would start and the keyboard was very quiet and it was impossible to make it any louder; we were in the studio and since nothing was working we decided that I should show them the songs I have been working on. So I started to play and the drummer starts banging away on the bongos with his drum sticks. Two things wrong with this: 1) I am trying to play and it wouldnt be bad if he was keeping time but hes not, and 2) You just don't hit bongos with your sticks! God, I'ts just not done. Sacrelige!!! lol
Anyways I got him to stop and I began again because I had to pick up the groove again, I got back into the song and he turned on the one program that was working on the computer, which happened to be an irritating MIDI generator, and began to play around with it. I stopped and stared at him for a minute or two and finally he noticed I wasnt playing and turned around. I told him, "Can you not?"
He acted as if he was suprised that his loud, obnoxious bleeps and bloops were disturbing my playing and said "...sorry." and turned it off. And its like he can't stop banging things with his drumsticks, practice is good but there's a point where it gets annoying.
anyway sorry for slashing you on the net, drummer who will remain anonymous but its so annoying.

The Most Grand and Royal Sir Kevin.

I have a drummer, who is A/B, He just jams. He always keeps time, and can go crazy when we get going. I'm lucky, however we don't have a bassist, so the band is just me and him. Our friend is learning bass, thou, so we should be good.

btw, Whats a gob?
