Does anyone play Washburn acoustics?
Do you like 'em?
I am looking at a J28 SCE DL and a D56 SWCE
Does anyone know anything about these guitars?

Hi florintine,
MY first guitar was a Washburn folksized acoustic guitar, it was a very good starter guitar nice action, good tuners dosnt go out to tune to much.
I liked it very much, I have a better one now but i still play her occasionally.
If you are just starting out they are great, I dont know much about the two models that you mentioned if they are higher end guitars they should do you fine.
hope this helps

I've played many years. I am a classical guitarist, but I use a steal string to lead a worship team at our church.
the models I mentioned are high end, ranging between $1100 and $1400.
thanks for you input.

Wow. That's awesome. I've played washburns. Except medium to low end. Around 300... about like 400-500 list. It was a good guitar. But i think that if ur buying high end, its a good bet that you'll have a great guitar. Good luck. Why not just get a steel string taylor for that much? You could get a nice guitar for that price.

that is a good point.
The reason is that I am getting a really good deal on any Washburn guitar I want - about one half off. I know someone who can get them easily.
You can't really get a Taylor with a pick up in it for $600. I do like Taylor though.

they should be wonderful then florentin,
My cousin bought a high end about twenty five years ago and its still going strong with a big beautiful voice to this day.
I played her a few month ago and she sounded sweet.
Sorry i thought you were a beginner, but it was your first post.
good luck with whichever you choose.

A few months ago I went into a shop and played a good 30 minutes on almost all of the Washburn's they had, and I was disappointed. They were just really uncomfortable to me, and the price didn't really reflect the sound.
All in all, I ended up liking a Breedlove that is on hold right now. :)

wow, it's interesting, even shocking, to hear you say that. I played about 10 washburns to try them out, and 9 out of ten were wonderful. Hmmm

Flo ~
Don`t have a washburn acoustic but just picked up a HB - 30 semi-hollow
it sounds sweet both plugged and unplugged - unplugged set a mic close to you and the sound is very nice. alittle more mellow/jazzy the a full hollow body.
Hmmm---- worship team - interesting - have you heard of the REZ Band w/ Glenn Kaiser - harder rock/blues stuff BUT his(Glenn Kaiser) solo stuff is very good - but hard to find tab for. Where Rose`s Grow is allsome.
If you have heard of them and know a site to get tab for them please let me know? Thanks - or a good christain tab site for that matter.

For that kind of money I would get a Martin or a Gibson myself.
I have played the higher end of the Washburn line, they was nice but not as rich in tone as the Martin,Taylor,Gibson in the same price range.

I love my Washburn acoustic! I have had it for almost 4 years and I love it as much as the day I got it. I have never had one problem with it. The intonation is awesome, strings last forever on it's setup, and the sound is always consistant. I have had 2 professional musicians who have way more expensive guitars complement me on it, that says something. Oh ya, and if you like shine, it is amazing how it always looks shined up, even had people ask what I use on it to keep it so shiny and nice...I have a strat that I really like but would trade for something nicer, the Washburn will be mine forever, if that gives you any idea! ;)

as far as christian tabs, I really don't know any site, because I don't read tab. sorry. I am a classically trained guitarist, so I read mostly staff notation.
I am sure you can find stuff out there.
You should give Chris Rice a listen. He doesn't really do praise and worship, but he plays pretty nicely. Lots of acoustic stuff.

Flo ~ Thanks for the reply - am alittle over ten months into real playing - taking lessons I mean and that ( reading staff notation ) is one of the reasons I picked my instructor - SLOOOOWly getting the hang of it, as well as music therory.
And Yes Chris Rice is someone I`d like to play as well as ( LOL).

I'm in the process of getting a semi-hollowbody Oscar Schmidt made by Washburn. It also has Washburn pickups.

I have a Washburn acoustic that I've had for over 20 years. It was a mid-range guitar the time I bought it (think I paid around 250 for it in the late 70's) and it's been an great guitar. Of course I've kept it in a hard case and occasionally went extended periods of time without playing it but over all a decent guitar.
However, I just bought a low-end Martin and I have to admit that I like it much better.

I have two Washburns, an acoustic and an electric. Due to storage problems, I can't drag the electric out to see what model it is and the acoustic is at my apartment (I am at my girlfriend's). I think the acoustic is a D10 model, or something.
Neither is really high end. I bought both of them used and they are both excellent instruments. They possess a lot of the telltale signs of a quality guitar. They don't go out of tune, they are well made and rugged, they look real sharp, they have a good sound, good action and don't buzz.
I played the acoustic pretty steadily for at least three years or more and learned a lot on it.
When I "moved up" I went in a slightly different direction and got a new Seagull S6 electric/acoustic for versatility. For a couple of hundred more dollars, I think it is better than the Washburn, but not much.

My guitar has arrived.
It is the best acoustic electric I have ever owned. It looks wonderful, it plays like a dream, and oh, the sound is unbelievable, plugged in and also cold.
I don't like acoustic electrics that sound great plugged in, and sound like a Walmart guitar unplugged... I practice unplugged most of the time - I only plug in twice a week, so I needed a guitar that sounds good unplugged too.
I love this guitar. It was well worth the money.

HI
I looked for this guitar on the web....I wanted to see what it looks like...but I have had no success..could you describe it, please? What sort of wood is it made of?
Congratulations, by the way. I hope you get many hours of satisified jamming!

the reason you could not find it online is because they just started making them in January.
If you go to the washburn site (washburn.com) you can find it there.
It is the acoustic guitar on the right column, in the opening page of the website. I got the acoustic electric version, but they only picture the unplugged version.
Washburn D56 SWCE
Top: solid mahogany
Back: solid rosewood
Sides: solid rosewood
Neck: mahogany
the only thing I did not like was the strings. they use Vinci strings, naturally, because Washburn makes Vinci. I prefer D'Addario lights.

Wow, a beautiful warm sounding guitar...
Mahogany is a wonderful choice of guitar...I have a nato guitar as well as a mahogany, which is a cheap mahogany alternative, but there is definetely a sound difference...
One sounds cheap and 2 dimensional, the other sounds bright, warm and has slight accents on treble.
I have a low-midrange Ibanez AEL10L, and I wish it had a little more bass. Perhaps I should have bought a dreadnought instead!
I love the responses of the fingerboard...It seems to pick up slight nuances of my right hand (I am a southpaw!)
Excuse me for being a little pertinent, but I would love to hear the Washburn being played. Is there any chance you could record your stuff and put it on "Showcase"?

I think, as recommended by other people on this site, that there is a free program downloadable from the web called "Audacity". It enables you to rig up a mic to the computer, start Audacity, then record away. The music is then saved onto your hard drive, then you can access a site called "Soundclick" to upload your songs.
Then you go onto the "Showcase" section of this forum and provide a link for your personal soundclick page you have recorded your music on.
I think you have to convert your music file into MP3 files.....
A popular file type to upload music onto the web with is MP3. I do not know whether you have heard of MP3 technology, but it enables the sound of your music file to be small, so that it downloads onto the listener's computer quickly, and streams nicely too...
I think there may be a quicker way, as I am not au fait with computers. There is a section also on this forum called "Computer Recording", where there are some real experts at hand....
Apologies if all that did not make sense! :hmmm:

Flo ~ Any luck with the recording a soundbite for the Showcase site? Funny you mentioned the "vinci" strings - I thought I was the only one who does not like them. LOL when I got my HB-30 that was the first thing I did - as a matter of fact I did it right at the store - bought dean markley signature series xl 10 - 48`s and changed them right there !
A BIG smile & thumbs up on the new purchase - many happy fingers & ears with your playing ~~~

You can't really get a Taylor with a pick up in it for $600. I do like Taylor though.
So get a Big Baby for $300 and stick a pickup in it. I have a Big Baby and the thing I like best about Taylors is that day in and day out they play better than anything I have owned, and I have owned a lot of them. I usually end up playing solid body electrics when playing out but if I was gigging with an acoustic these days that's what it would be - I can't see spending $1000 - $2000 on an acoustic to bang around in the cold and wet, indoors and out.
One thing I have always wanted to do was add this kind of rig to one of my solid bodies:

Florentin,
Just bought a D56SW. All solid wood (spruce top, mahogany neck, rosewood back and sides. Bought it for 649.94 at music 123. The craftsmanship and the sound is very good. I own a Tacoma rosewood and a Guild D25, and this guitar is right up there with them. The volume isn't quite as good as my other two guitars, but the fullness of sound and the sustain is every bit as good. This kind of money for a solid wood guitar is nothing short of a fantastic bargain. I was always of the opinion that Washburn made nothing but cheap entry level guitars, and could not be taken seriously. Not any more. A beautiful, well made, great sounding guitar at a good price. My advice - buy one!

I played a Washburn D100 for my first few months on guitar. It's an excellent-sounding entry-level guitar for only $100 USD. So if I can get a sound like that for that price, I bet I could get a great sound for not too much more.
