I am looking at basses, and, being a guitar player I am aware that fretboard material effects string response and tone. I know that rosewood on guitars is not as bright as maple.
What I would like to know is, can you guys give me opinions about the difference between the tone of maple and rosewood on fretboards.
I want the rock era low bass sound, very low bass. Not just for the heavy rock sound but for example for such things as, like the bass sound Stephen Stills got on the first C/S/N album.
I would like to know things like, for example, if maple is brighter, is it because lows are sacraficed, or simply that it adds brightness that can be EQed out. I am not interested in being able to add brightness, as I say I am looking for the very deep tape compressed rock era tone.
I am thinking the difference between maple and rosewood will not be something that is beyond being compensated artificially.
Any opinions about this are appreciated.
THANKS!
