I am looking at basses, and, being a guitar player I am aware that fretboard material effects string response and tone. I know that rosewood on guitars is not as bright as maple.
What I would like to know is, can you guys give me opinions about the difference between the tone of maple and rosewood on fretboards.
I want the rock era low bass sound, very low bass. Not just for the heavy rock sound but for example for such things as, like the bass sound Stephen Stills got on the first C/S/N album.
I would like to know things like, for example, if maple is brighter, is it because lows are sacraficed, or simply that it adds brightness that can be EQed out. I am not interested in being able to add brightness, as I say I am looking for the very deep tape compressed rock era tone.
I am thinking the difference between maple and rosewood will not be something that is beyond being compensated artificially.
Any opinions about this are appreciated.
THANKS!

I was also wondering about this, but what kind of bass guitar makes the beginning bass solo in The Vines "FTW?"

I don't know who the Vines are, I listen to rock music, so I really don't hear any new music, it doesn't interest me much, other than the fact the band I am in does some "alternative" music. I go for the bass sound from when rock was happening.
I already ordered a Bass, I got the SX model from rondomusic that has the yellow finish with the antiqued neck and fretboard. The fretboard is maple, i think I would rather have had the tone of Rosewood, but I couldn't resist the way this one looks, it looks like it was made in 1964.
