Basic questions about the bass I was wondering about. What’s the difference between 4,5, or 6 stringed basses? Can they use the same amps as electrical guitars? I heard they might cause the amp to blow up… and does an electric guitar’s effects pedals etc also work with a bass?

I am wondering about 5 & 6 string basses, too. Are they tuned like a regular guitar or does the tuning pattern established by the E-A-D-G strings extend to the extra strings? Also, are the extra strings added to the low or high end?

I just found the answers to my own questions here:

Tuning depends on the strings, the heavier the string the lower you can go. So depends on how the bass is set up.
DON'T EVER PLUG A BASS INTO A GUITAR AMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER NEVER NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I'm through yelling now, but it will damage major parts of an amp if it's not a bass amp.

I had a 5 string bass and it was tuned E, A, D, G, C, so it was basic tuning for bass but the 1st or smallest string was tuned to C so the patterns could remain the same throughout the bass.

what i thought wit 5, 6, 7 etc stringed basses is that each extra string that's added is lower than th previous, a standard tuned bass is E A D G if im not mistaken......so a 5 string would be B E A D G and a 6 would be G B E A D G..... etc etc this would be before u de-tune them urself, lol

this is just what ive been told and always thought so forgive me if its not true n im just chucking out random info that is totaly wrong....

The low B is about as low as a person can hear, but depends again on what I was talking about, how is the bass strung? 105's work well for E, and 45's for the G string. It won't work well for a 105 string to be tuned down to B, it would flop all over the place and hit frets too easily. So if your bass has 105's or 110's for the bottom string then it should be tuned to E. My 5 had a 20 for the C string so it worked very well, then 45 for G, 65 for D, 85 for A, and 105 for E.

I'm sure that a low B bass would have a huge fat 135 or 145 string so you can tune it to B. But to go lower just wouldn't make sense particularly if you can't hear it at all.

wait, i heard something about a synthetic effect, is it for basses?

So is a bass just the electric bass and the amp? Or can you add bass effect pedals or the equivalents of them?

i was looking around

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/fg=102/g=bass/search/detail/base_pid/519634/

It looks pretty good, but is it?

And to save future costs, I'm gonna replace my gig bag with a hardshell case

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/fg=102/g=bass/search/detail/base_pid/540108/

but I'm wondering, will it fit?

I've been playing bass through my Cyber Twin and it doesn't seem to have hurt it any. Of course I don't crank it up very loud, though. I can see where it might cause problems if you crank it up.
