I just bought me a set of Elixir Poly lights.

sorry, but I do not like them.

maybe I got used to it but I've always used d'addario lights, and I like them a lot better.

to me, it is NOT worth the price difference!!!...

what do you folks think?

Sorry to hear that, Florentin...

What is it that you do not like about the Elixirs? Is it the tonal quality? DO they feel cheap and tacky compared to normal strings?

You do own a Washburn, a top range guitar, and I am wondering if the sound quality is distorted somewhat. If you have a good quality guitar, you probably do not need those type of strings.

I have a low/mid range guitar, and putting the strings on them improves the sound quality. Somehow, the resonance is better, the sound is crisper.

The unfortunate thing about going back to normal bronzes for me is that they seemed a little sluggish when I did hammer-ons etc.

I felt like I was playing through porridge!

I want to try out other strings when I need to re-string my guitar...it is rather costly using elixirs!

Hey, did you get the Washburn problem sorted?

EXP's are my chosen strings for acoustics. I tried Elixers for four or five sets and had problems. I switched to EXP's and the problems went away. The EXP's last so long that I have to actually have to throw them away as a set.
They last too long, if there is such a thing.

I use D'Addario. I love them. At first i was a little skeptical. But, i have used about three sets on my two guitars in the past few months. They sound awesome. I love the tone that i am getting. Even now, when they are kinda old, i still hvae a good tone. I will probably switch them out sometime this summer. I need another set.

I don't care for the poly Elixers, but the nanos are very, very good to me. They sound bright (like 80/20's should to me) and stay that way just about until you break them.

Neither, Martin Bronze Phosphorous for me. Truly amazing.

EDIT: Elixers just sounded tacky to me, not impressive enough.

I am pretty set on my electric brand of strings but for acoustic i have not found anything to my liking. I am going to try D'Addario next. I have tried ernie balls and a few sets of martins. There is nothing wrong with the strings i think my guitar is more set up for a ten because 11's seem a little to tight. I just shaved the bridge recently cant wait to get a new set of tens on it :)

I am a NANO fan too...they are more like the original string, and play exactly the way you described. Normal strings age too quickly on my guitar.

I hate D'addario's.

I used to use them, and they have the shortest life span of any guitar string I've used thus far.

I used D'addarios for years but lately I've found them to be a bit short-lived and not very satisfying. The Martin 80/20's seem to be really great - reasonabe price, they sound good soon after install, and last a very long time with diligent post-play wiping.

I use Martiln's as well, Elixirs are high quality, but I can't afford them.

As the well-to-do politicians yell in the House of Lord's;

"Here, Here!!"

They rust up faster than a Fiat.

My big problem with Elixer is that after you've played the snot out of them for a month...the new ones sound EXACTLY the same as the ones you took off! I used them for a while but they just do not compare to the brightness of a new set of bronze wounds.
Elixer strings are really good, however, if you have a guitar that you do not play very much, one that sits around waiting for the next jam. Then they have true value whereas the steel strings will get caked up.

Hey Carbo...
I found tha the Martin strings wore out quicker than the D'darrios. Are you finding the opposite? I wonder if the humidity of your hometown is doing something. I live about a foot from the Atlantic Ocean and have found that certain strings just do not cut it around here...most notably the Dean Markleys and the Martins.

guitar strings change from person to person. I find that ernie balls break easier than rotosound. And that Didarrio wear out quicker than rotosound. But my friend finds that ernie ball dont ever break and that didarrio strings do. My guitar techer doesnt like rotosounds because they rust quicker for him than ernie balls or didarrios do. Thats how much it changes for each person.

As i cant afford a martin i allways just use their strings, the bronze ones lol, they are very nice but dont last to long. I have also tried the D'adrio coated ones (not sure what their name is) they were very nice and lasted quite a while. I have heard more negaitive stuff about the elixers than good so i stayed away.

D'addario string are much nicer to play than elixers, personally i think that elixers are a waste of money and the wear of strings is just something that happens and the way the elixers work instead of the definate blackening of the higher strings, elixers tend to go grey and brown off. so you dont know if there dead untill you find out one gig night and then your guitar sounds rubbish because the strings are deceased.
