I seem to contantly be screwing around with strings for doing DADGAD and such and also seem to be getting more confused on the way to go. So, ladies and gents, what are your words of wisdom on this subject?

I used use a lot of & still use a lot of alternate tunings.
Medium EXP's are a good way to go.
You can get away with lights, depending on the guitar & the string manufacturer.

I d say use a heavy gauge of strings , they sound best when strummed open and when you play a solo with the other strings acting like drone strings on a sitar. Fingers hurt a little in the long run you will enjoy the results.

Like other people have said, its more a matter of tone when you chose your guages on acoustic stuff like that. Tuning to things like DADGAD or open E or D, its not going to effect the tensions of your strings that much, If you want to go lower, then you can buy thicker strings or if you want to go up, go with a capo
