Are bass guitar, amps, and strings more expensive? If so, how much. I would like to add a bass to my collection.

bass amps are more expensive, just because of the physics -- lower frequencies travel in a longer/broader wavelenght -- the longer/broader the wavelength, the more push you need to get it out into the air.
A guitarist can gig with an amp that's a 150w, but a bassist will need something ridiculous in comparison, like 600w, just to keep up.

it's ALL more expensive. strings...well, they're more expensive, but you won't be buying nearly as many. amps...ugh. this is where it's a problem. bass's...you can buy a cheapie and be fine.

I have played both bass and lead guitar in bands, and actually bass tends to be cheaper if you are a performer, because you tend to have one bass that does all, but most guitarists need various guitars to get the sounds they need. In general, the difference is not significant enough to worry about. And strings, well man, bass strings can sometimes last for years............ guitar strings, if played regular, not long at all.

Amps are more expensive. Strings are, but don't need to be changed anywhere near as often. Basses aren't really more expensive.
