um... how much is that american? I'm guessing between 100-150. If i'm right. I'd say why not go for an acoustic pack. I have a nice ibanez one that i got for my first guitar. 100 dollars american. It isn't a solid toped guitar, but it is a nice durable. Action is VERY low for a cheap acoustic. Also, if you don't want to get a pack, i'd say get a regular ibanez or fender for that price. You may be able to find a nice yamaha in the range as well. If you are willing to spring to 200 dollars you can get some nice yamahas, ibanez, and prob fender too. Good luck.

Ibanez does em best in that range, IMO, but they only really shine if you plan to spend some time with em and give em a bone nut / saddle and some ebony pins. They're very easy mods and make it sing.

I'd go for a Yamaha or a Hohner, they're cheap, but good.

 that mod took me AGES to do on my old acoustic :( I got some off my luthier and then had to spend about 2 hours sanding them down individually so they fitted into their holes snugly (ebony is a very hard wood) then spent another hour cutting grooves in for the strings. Finally after all that they had no grip, i gave them a rough finish and coated the linings of the holes with a glue that had a rubbery finish still to no avail. In the end I gave up and put the old plastic pins back in. lol sorry for rant but that mod just sent me insane when i did it.

For me, they already were grooved, all I had to do was shape them which was very easy. Just keep hitting em with your file, took maybe an hour tops for the set. I dunno what's up with yours, mine grab fine.

I don't know about availability in UK, but Alverez has always been a great bang-for-buck accoustic... over here, at least.

Hi hog...
My suggestion for that money is to try the Yamaha guitars. I have found that they have the best low end makes for your money. However, that is just an opinion but well founded. I had a Yairi for many years and found the $200 Yamahas had a crisper sound. So it was the first guitar I tried when I upgraded. I also found many low ends had good quality sound on the first five strings but the 6th would be muted. Or vice versa, the tenor strings rang true but the bass was dead. Your guitar sound is a very personal thing. I just happened to identify with Yamaha. Someday I'll get that Martin.

If your in the UK, you can get a vintage v300, won best acoustic under £1000 award. They really are supposed to be quite special. They cost around £100 online. Mine shall be here on Friday. Cant wait.

I would recommend not limiting yourself to a brand. Go out and play alot of guitars in your price range and buy the one that sounds the best to you.... Never ever buy an acoustic guitar online without playing it first. I have seen lots of guitars that are of the same make and model but sound totally different.
