My POS acoustic is, like others, about 3.5 inches wide (rough measurement using the distance between my first and second knuckle as approximately an inch)...it can get rather uncomfortable to play for long periods of time...do they make thinner acoustics? how is the sound affected? and where/what manufacturer could i get one from? Just curious...thanks

Auditorium style bodies are generally thinner.

Yes they do. Idk if 3.5 inches is the standard size for a dreadnaught or not. But they do make smaller bodies. I have seen a washburn that is only an inch and less than two inches thick. Idk how it affects the sound. But they are good if you are going to amp them. My old teacher does a lot of live work and recording for her cds. So she just got a guitar that is very narrow. Acoustic. I 4get the brand. Is your guitar a dreadnaught? if it is, my takamine G series guitar is smaller than a dreadnaught. Also, ovations are very slimline because of their back.

yes it is a dreadnaught...i wanted a cutaway, but for some reason i didnt get one, lol...i have trouble playing some electric solos on it cause of the body and my small fingers...

Taylor T5 Custom thinline, looks pretty nice, and you can never go wrong with a taylor in my experience

if a stratacoustic isnt on the menu because of price, i hardly think a t-5 would be
there are "thin" style acoustics at my local shop. i think theyre mostly martins, maybe taylors but anyway theyre all expensive guitars at that store so i dunno about cheaper brands

Sum - Look at Jay Tusher thinbody - have an elec/acoustic not bad and sounds good - And the price was right - about 230$ w/o a case - the only problem I have with it is can`t put heavyer strings on it - it came with 10`s and I tried to beef it up by throwing on a set of DR 12`s "red devils' cuz I thought the red strings would look good against the hi-gloss black body - was wrong - it bowed at the bridge something fierce - so went back to 10`s - But that is the only problem I`ve had .

Line 6 makes a really small acoustic electric. However its over 1000 bucks. Oh yeah, and ethe comment on ur dreadnaught. I'd for for just a smaller body. If you look in ur music store for non dreadnaught guitars... they are A LOT smaller and feel nicer.

the reason i bought the one i did was cuz i got it for about 50 bucks...lol...so at that price, i didnt mind it being a lil large and having to do some action work on it and stuff...but it's not comfortable sometimes to play for awhile...

"Thinner" may be "easier" or "more comfortable" (had an original Tele-coustic many moons ago... comfy, but it sounded like sh**), but NO "thin-accoustic" will EVER have the warmth or tone of a full-sized accoustic... IMHO
I went from a Tele-coustic to a dreadnaught to a jumbo... Bigger = MUCH better tone AND volume (i.e. easier to mike). My Alverez jumbo sounds way better than anything I've ever owned. (...of course , I could never afford the Martin D-35 or Guild F-50 I REALLY wanted.)
Long story short... SOUND ALWAYS WINS!!!
If you want it to sound like a REAL accoustic... learn to work around the size of it!!!
(pssssssst... that's why there's a seperate thread for accoustics) ...IT'S A WHOLE DIFFERENT ANIMAL!!!

If you're going for purely acoustic then the thinner will give thinner sound. Stands to reason.
But if you are gonna amp anyway then the Stratacoustic or the Taylor T5 (I want I want I want I want) with a thinline pup will work regardless thickness. Then you get into the electronics and availability of tone shaping.
