Ok, well this was the second song recorded with the new drum machine (Boss DR 670) and bass. The first one was AC/DC "You Shook Me" and i'm not gonna post it 'cause you will laugh at me :p .

Anyway, my second attempt at bass, and Robyn's 1st attempt at drums. (machine or otherwise). Haven't figured out how to loop it yet. Just recorded it real time. I'ts a cover by Tracy Bonham called "Mother Mother". (She's cool :) ) We use to do it in our band and it's really fun. I'm still struggling a little with the settings on my V-Amp but i think it turned out ok.

Mother Mother (http://www.christianddarrell.com/modules/mydownloads/visit.php?cid=2&lid=12)

Since this is the first actual MULTI TRACK recording with bass and drums, what do you think? Hubby had to do hours of re-mixing poor guy.

Yea that was great. Jeesh the vocals are awesome. You husband might have spent his time better beating on some pots and pans though.
LOL just kidding. The drums were a little umm, one demensional. Except for that one cowbell hit I thought I heard. lol
It's a great first effort. You two are great. I love your music.

lOLOL of course you heard the cowbell!! We left it in there just for giggles. And I'm giggling. Hmmm... suggestions on the drums? Different settings maybe? They are dynamic, so maybe just more of that? Altho, if you could have seen her face when she was doing them you might not be inclined to ask anymore of her at that point  Or do you mean the style of playing... rhythms and fills and such? Yeah as far as the mixing, you shoulda heard before. eewww.
Thanks for listening!

Yes i mean the 'style' of playing. Need some dynamics, fills, hi hat, etc.. Just learning to loop a decent pattern would be a good place to start.

I thought the drums were fine. The vocals reminded me of Melisa Ethridge.

LOL ... I would be worried about her feelers getting hurt if she was a drummer. But as you can tell, she is the vocalist, and a decent guitar player. Even tho I have a LITTLE bit of drum experience, I didn't think I could do a whole lot better so I let her go for it. I'm guessing we have nowhere to go but up from this point :toohappy: Any drummers in Phoenix?? Honestly tho, I really like the input, 'cause I really don't know a whole lot about drumming.

BTW thanks Slip... You're a generous soul!

And SG... yeah, not in this lifetime :p Gonna redo Shook Me with a decent guitar tone, and maybe learn the lead like it really is and not like I've been playing it forever. (Wrong I discovered after finally listening to it again )

You said first attempt at drums (machine or otherwise). What did she use here?

GuitarGretta

She pecked out the part live while we were recording on the drum machine. Hence the cowbell (hit that button by mistake- ooppppssss!)

Unfortunately - we only have a drum machine, and no drums - maybe someday

I am just happy tro have a beat! :toohappy:

Can the machine loop patterns and do fills?

Damn, nice vocals. I used to do this tune in a cover band and that sounds better than our old female singer. She was pretty good too ;) Much more soul in it.

Thanks Rev and FC. Yep, it's definitely a vocal pleaser. Glad you like the raw guitar. Needs WAAAY more beef, but my tubes on my amp are blown. Should be here monday and we can get some real RAW going maybe.

Hate to be a pain in the neck, G, but I wish you would post more often. I love all you & sis's stuff. (I know, just me being selfish)

Thanks Rick and Eclectifish. We're working on one of my sister's origninals now, but it's quite a slow process. Learned how to program the drum machine a bit, but they still suck. Musicians don't get paid enough.

Yeah, that was cool. I like hearing your stuff a lot.
I can hear a little Ann or Nancy Wilson in your singing. ( I can't remember which was the lead singer)

I think the problem is the drums lack dynamics, there is alot of hanging over the snare. The Bass drum doesnt really make it into the mix very much. Maybe some cymbals in there would help on the breakdown. The tempo gets lost (or just doesnt fit) near the end with the floor toms.

But still wow its a great song, keep at it :D I loved the vocals and the guitar playing was rite on.

Gretta did u do the vocals?

Great job. Love the emotion in the vocals. Nice, tight performance too. As long as the drums in the next tune are better than the ones in this tune then you're making progress right? (Being a drummer first, I've fiddled around with drum machines and in my mind there is no replacement for the real thing. It's like the acoustic setting on an electric guitar modeler.... nice but just not quite the same. But I actually thought that although the drums were pretty basic, what was there was not bad at all - and certainly better than no drums at all. Keep it up.)

wow, the vox are ..... :wipes a tear from eye: beautiful. They hold strong in the loud parts which caught me off guard. But this whole song is a gem. I love it a lot, but whoever was singing just about stole my heart.... :o

I give a big 10 to anyone who can even figure out how to make those damn drum machines work. If you got a real beat out of the machine that's doing something!
The song was very nice by the way, keep it up.

Don't worry tama, you'll always have a job so quit crying. (Sorry, inside joke)
