Man, I knocked 'em dead last night. I got in about 3 in the mornin' got caught up on the haps here, and now it's 4:15. I'm exhausted. I had such a great jam though, I just had to share.

Sometimes the jams start out slow, then fizzle out. Sometimes they stink. Sometimes they are pure magic. Well, this was one of those magic nights. Last week we had no drummers or bass players. Last night we had three or four drummers and half a dozen bass players.

The other guitarist that was up with me on the first set had gone over the changes to the Allman Bros. version of Stormy Monday with me and he said the bass player knew the changes. They gave me just the back-up I needed to pull off a great solo. It was so cool I got congrats from a dozen people. The harp player was first, then there were three people that stopped me at the break when I went inside to get something to drink. As I relaxed during the break people kept comin' up to me sayin' how great I did.

I had to sit out a few hours to let others get a chance to play, but I got another set in for the last hour. When I got done playin' I was the last man standing. They were takin' down the PA speakers an' I was still playin'. I had to think of Jackson Brown in "Stay", when he says "make sure you have it all packed to go before you come for my piano".

I live for nights like this. :toohappy: :toohappy: :toohappy:

what guitar and amp did you play this time?

Actually I was really tired, bones ache'n, and not in such a good mood. I didn't feel like loadin' up an amp, so I used the back-up solid state I keep in the car. It's a 30 watt Rogue. Not a killer tone, but it's good enough. I also didn't feel like playin' the heavy Les Paul so I took the SG.

So my list was like: SG (w/strap), Rogue amp, OD pedal, two cords, an extra battery, and a pick.

where did you play?I jam with the Klamath Blues Society at BJ's Tavern in Klamath Falls. They have Blues jams every Thursday night. I jam at the Sonoma County Blues Society too, but not as often. They're at Clo's Bar-B-Que in Santa Rosa. They have jams on Wednesday nights.

Edit: I just noticed that you're from Long Island, so you might not know the area. These joints are in Southern Oregon and Northern California.

Cool man. Makes me think of something Santana said once about one note making it all worth while. One jam, one night...very cool!

I think Carlos could make a note last all night.

he is a legend, though i feel he doesnt get enough credit as he should, not alot of guitarists have heard him.

Santana may not get discussed a lot by shredders and such, but I think nearly everyone who plays music has heard of him. Just five years ago he tied the record for the most Grammys (8) for his album Supernatural (Michael Jackson is who he tied with).

Wow man, I go offline for a couple and I miss all the news.... :( That's awesome man, I was wondering what's been happening with the jams, if you were still going or what. Too bad you didn't get a recording of it. Makes it all worthwhile though, dang I wish I could have seen it.

I sent an email to the guy that played guitar with me in my first set. He did the rhythm part when I pulled off the cool solo in Stormy Monday. Here's an excerpt from his reply, ". . . Your lead that night was very cool and I am glad you got a chance to whip it out". Man, I'm still stoked about it. Gotta enjoy it while I can though, next time could be a flop just as easily. That's just the way it goes.

I know alot of people have heard of him, but not heard him, well thats the case with most people i meet. Not alot of people mention him when theyre talking about best guitarist.

Personally I'm a really big fan of Carlos. He's one of my top 5 I'd say for sure. I know what you mean, depends on the circle of people too.

Slipstream- That is the way it goes, I think that's part of what gets the excitement level up there. Way to rock em man, I hope you get another one out like that next week.

That sounds sweet slipstream. I can't wait until I can get a group of guys together and do gigs. I've only been playing for 4 months though so I have some work ahead of me before that happens...

I'm not part of "a group of guys", I just show up and jam with whoever else shows up. It's like an open mic free-for-all kinda thing. Ya never know who's gonna show up. Some people show up once on their way through town, some show up once in a while, then there are a few regulars. Even the regulars don't always show up though.

I'd rather be in a band, but it's hard to find people who are serious about getting together on a regular basis. The girl singer I used to get together with felt like she didn't need to practice. Now a guy that wanted to get together once a week before the jams to practice stuff hasn't had the time to practice in two weeks. Meanwhile, I jam everyday to my CDs and hope for the best on jam day.
