I've tried playing guitar, but I just never really liked playing it all that much. It's sound, unlike the bass, was just to off. I much prefer the sonorous, beastly foundation that the bass lays, and want to play that. But, i really need to get a bass ( gotta start somewhere) checked musicianfriend and music123, and I've come to the conclusion that the most price-effective course of action is to get one of the value packs. Now, i know to some, that's sacrilege, but I really need to get a bass, amp, jacks, and any instructional vids are helful, which is what these packs have to offer.

I'm tied between the Ibanez package and the Squire package.

However here's another package, no DVD, but still pretty solid.

Now, I myself will live and die playing Dean, but I don't want to shell out 200 bucks for a EVO XM when I can get a good BEGGINERS package. Anyone have feedback? Thanks.

I've played low end Ibanez basses and Squier basses and I think the Ibanezes are better. I'm not sure if it was the same model though.

I've asked aroudn with friends, and one still uses a Squire for about 4 years, says he hasn't had a problem at all with it. He says that the amp on the package will be ok, but i better upgrade it.

Get the Squier.

PS: It's spelled Squier, not Squire, for future reference.

... and what watt amp should one consider?

I went for a Fender Rumble 100, figuring it is loud enough for a small gig without breaking my budget or the windows at home.
