Well I have decided to build myself a guitar. Nothing to report yet except I am going to do it soon, its going to be a great way to occupy my spare time. In the future I will probably talk to the amateur luthiers on this site for advice.

Now I'm off to draw up some plans...

Not yet, but I sure as hell will be when I get started. Just starting a thread about guitar building... who here has done it? Anyone got any finished products to show off?

it's just a standard strat shape thing...gonna have a custom paintjob and headstock, maybe scalloped fretboard...working on the body atm :)

Im going to be going for my own shape design... I think it will be solidbody, but I might make it into a little hollow body guitar, or perhaps with one or two hollow cavities and f-holes. I know its going to have p90 pickups, and probably a trapeze tailpiece.

Yeah I was checking out project guitar.com, it seems very useful.

Ok my first draught of the design is finished. Its going to be a little LP-type solid-body, quite small I think. Its going to have the basic LP shape with the same lefthand cutaway, but on the right it will have a 'cutaway' bought like on the telecaster if you get my drift. Its not going to be archtopped like the LP, it will be a simple flat slab of wood. It will have a symmetrical gibson-style headstock. Its going to have two P90 pickups and a trapeze tailpiece, with 1 pickup selector, 1 tone and 1 volume control. The finish will be a sort of translucent black sunburst, darker around the edges, so that you can still see the woodgrain in the centre. The pick-ups will be cream-coloured. Im not sure if it will have any binding.

I am so flattered. First I get called an "Amateur", then someone says they'd be better off gettin' help from somewhere else.

This may be true, on both counts, but it ain't no way to ask for help. :)

Good luck with your build man. You're bound to get lots of self-satisfaction from it.

Well I'd love to help you out man, but I'm hardly an "amateur" luthier. Check this picture out..
