Some excellent stuff in there man.

Nice post.

Fingers tired?Very. This is only a partial list.
I have more for the A+ gang too.. lots of benchmark ute's and such.. I just kept it simple.
Add links if you wish, but keep the Warez and file sharing links out.
If any of you guys have any solid links to recording software, add them.. But make sure that it's either shareware,Demo or freeware.
And if you post a link, let others know what format it is. :)

Wow! Keith, thanks. That's a lot of info. It'll take me a few days to surf thru them.

Keith
August 28th, 2005, 07:41 AM
Just to let you guys know, some links might not work..If you find one, please let me know so I can remove the link, or up-date them.
All the apps listed have been tested personaly. It's all free, and some are demo's, while others are freeware and/or Shareware.
I would never post a link that leads to your computer crashing or installing Spyware/Malware.
So all links are safe to open and use the apps.

For your music mixing pleasure...

Here is a link to some really good VST plug-ins.

I know these work with both n-Track and Goldwave and they are free.

After having a Trojan/Worm problem a coupla' weeks ago, and having been
using a fully licensed Norton AV 2003...I decided to look around for something
a bit better.

Went to the best place I know of for internet security information:
http://castlecops.com/

Avast anti-virus has always had a high rating, so tried it out.

So far it has blocked two attempted toolbar and trojan programs, while
NAV just sat there..doing nada. Not even a whimper, flag...nothing.
(No wonder it's basically a free program now...POS)

Try Avast...(Free version works great too)

Great list. You should probably change the links for myie2 to http://www.maxthon.com/ . Great browser btw.

Interval trainer is a guitar program i came across. Being really new to guitar i dont really understand how to learn from it, but some of you might. It shows a fretboard, and than a note on it, and than it says something like, down a major second, and shows the next note, and so on. It plays the notes too.

a few free programs here for customising windows, some just aesthetically, some functionally

http://www.wincustomize.com/software.aspx

the best ones are object dock, which is great functionally, and makes the desktop look a lot cleaner and tidier, and windowblinds, its great for customising windows, and IE if youre silly enough to use it. i went completely ape on my computer and now it looks AWESOME, so much tidier and more attractive than windows.

You forgot Opera!
Opera web browser! I've been using it for several years; it's way faster, more secure, and feature-rich than IE. The goodies like tabbed browsing, pop-up blocking, etc, don't require extra downloading and configuring like firefox. And, it's free!!!!
www.opera.com

Also, Crap Cleaner www.ccleaner.com
It cleans up temp files, caches, mru's, fixes registry problems, etc.
And it's free.

Robot_Boy

just downloaded crap cleaner, im having a look at it now. thanks for the link

Robot_Boy

a quick note about crap cleaner - under the 'system' heading, uncheck the box that says 'old prefatch data'. clearing that out actually hinders your computers performance, rather than speeds it up

Most welcome Fret.

To everyone else, feel free to add "freeware" apps to this thread.
Or if you have a link that you are not sure of, PM me the link, and I will have a look at it. If it is legit, I will add it and give a shout out to the member that submits it in the original post.

I have to be careful about posting links from things that I have not tested yet or heard of.
I don't want your PC's to crash.

Does it work better than audacity? Just wondering if you've found it to be user friendly in all aspects.

http://jl.delporte.free.fr/guitools/ - Freeware tool, it is a tuning device, a rythm generator and a chords and scales library.

Mod note* This site is mostly in French and has pop-ups. Be aware of this.

Under audio tools, you should add Reaper.

I've been using it for years on all my stuff, and it SMOKES Audacity IMO, (I even like it more than Cubase SX3 which I also have, but Cubase is FAR from free, lol)
