my teacher is going to give me a program called 'cakewalk' that is apparently a home recording suite. i was wondering what i need to know to be able to record to pc. would i just get like, a 'big to small' plug adapter and run that from my aplifier...or something...o_O need advice before i explode something.

A lot depends on your sound card and amp. You want to go line out from your amp to the line in on your sound card. If you don't have a line out then mic it. What ever you do don't use a speaker out into your computer. You will fry something. If your amp has a headphone out and no line out that might work. All depends on the sound card. Some cards only have a mic input which will not accept as much line signal as a line input. Hopefully the program will have a manual. If not, go to cakewalk's site and see if you can download it.
I use Cakewalk software and they have good support on their website and a user fourm like this.

i have a 50W marshall and my soundcard is.................errmmmm
Realtek AC97 Audio...i dunno anything about sound cards but it's prolly default or something.
