Sorry if this has been discussed before. I did a search of the forums and came up empty. I am looking for a beginner’s bass and will only be using it home to amuse myself. Well, actually my wife but I will be picking at it also. Realizing my own needs out of a guitar neck which is short scale works best for me and that my wife’s hands would work best with a short scale. Also with shorter strings there is less tension so it won’t hurt my arthritic fingers.

The Squier Bronco bass seems to fit our needs. It is a 30” scale that is inexpensive at 150 bucks. The only other one I’ve seen at this price bracket is a Dean but I have a feeling their lower end are a little too lower end. Anyway I have babbled enough, anyone has experience with the Bronco? Any comments? Any other suggestions? And please, we are set on a short scale bass.

Don't know but I have an old japanese Fender copy from the 70s that is a short scale (my first bass) and it honestly isn't that much easier to play than my long scale. In fact it's no easier to play.

If youre 100% set on one, try to find a nice old Japanese one (or something like that) used, instead of buying the Squier Bronco, which I have a feeling is junk. In fact, buy used period.

My Ibanez Gio is a short necked bass, for about $200.

There is also the Epiphone EB short scale but it is very headstock heavy.

The Ibanez is head heavy. Good advice back there re buying used. Better value all around. Find a store/salesperson you can trust and listen hard to what is said and played.

Good luck.
