No matter what I use, straight from the guitar, effects out on amp, line out on amp, headphones out on amp, It always gets crazy distorted and ugly sounding, what do I need to record with guitar tracks on my computer. I'm just using the plug that came with the software. Do I need something between my amp and the computer? What works? This is extremely frustrating.

Using a PC, not a Mac right?

Open up your volume controls, select options > properties > adjust volume for playback. Depending on how you're plugging in, choose all the volume controls that apply and click ok. A new volume control will pop up. Set your input levels accordingly so there's no clipping. Open up the advanced controls for this one, if you're on the mic in, make sure to unselect mic boost. Adjust your levels so it sounds good and try it again.
