I have no clue when it comes to recording my music. So if i just get a microphone, plug it into my computer, without any specialised software, then play my guitar which is plugged into my amp and is completely seperate, can i record? I heard someone say you can just used windows media player to listen to it.

Is this possible?

U could plug your guitar straight into the mic socket i think, but wouldnt recommend it! (sounds terrible). The best way is to get some kind of pre amp then onto the computer, and there are lots of budget USB input boxes which are a supposed to do this job well.

You will find all the answers you need through google...

Thanks. But if i was just to get a microphone and play normally with my amp, would that work? Would it have a decent level of sound quality? I'm not looking for anything professional but just something listenable to.

yeah that would work - if you put the mic directly into the mic socket on your PC (go into the windows mixer and make sure you have unmuted the mic input in 'control panel>audio settings' ) but I think mics work better and sound better on a pre amp. I think thats because of the voltages and where or where its not an active mic will affect the signal thats being feed to your PC.
