Sorry i can't help right now, i'm learning java at uni just now but am struggling. How much do you know about java? How long have you been learning it?
I'm thinking of buying some java tutorial software to try and teach myself. Do you know anything about that? Have you ever used any?

Can you put what you don't understand in the form of a question? Do you understand the basics of the graphical compenent classes? The java website has a complete breakdown of each classes methods, constructors, members, etc.
Can you set up a java GUI? If so, is it just the drawing part that's giving you trouble?

Have you tried any of Sun's Swing tutorials:

i know the basics of the graphical methods/classes...but for use in this program, i cant figure out where to put the JComponent and how to overload the paintComponent() method to display what I need to display. Keep in mind this is Intro To Comp. Sci and is the first programming class i have ever taken and the first time i've ever worked with Java.

They gave you this in the first CS class? Damn, that's pretty quick paced.
Try this out:

Sum, I am still very, very sick 2day. I deleted your email address after I downloaded your file, so I wanted to let you know somehow that I probably won't be any help in this state. I've got two damn eyes full of pink eye.
I am sorry I couldn't help a fellow computer scientist, though.
