Okay, so I think I've pretty much settled on what I want. My rig is going to consist of:

* Fender 400 Pro Head (http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=2245600010) putting out 350 watts into 4 ohms
* Bag End 2x12" Cabinet (http://www.bagend.com/bagend/d12-d.htm) with 400 watt continuous sine wave handling

I may in future get another 2x12" to make it a 4x12" rig. This would also take it into 2 ohm territory with the head and give me 500 watts of power.

This stuff sounds ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING to me. My dream rig. What do you all think? Any experience with this head or Bag End enclosures?

It looks nice man.

But I personally prefer Gallien Krueger to....Well, anything!

...why don't you just get a 4x12 now?

I've never heard Bag End, but I have used 2x12's before. Nice sound, not as bright at 2x10's and 15's aren't clear enough by themselves.
Fender head though? haven't used one of them since I had a Showman way back.
should be a nice setup

That 2x12" alone is 77 pounds, not too bad, and is a nice small size.

If I were to get a 4x12" I couldn't just take half of it to smaller gigs or whatever. I don't need 4x12" and 500w of power for everything I do. It would also be a lot heavier and more awkward to move on my own.

The third reason, and it's what's preventing me from getting two cabinets right away, is money. I don't have enough money for two 2x12" cabs or one 4x12".

Fender head though? haven't used one of them since I had a Showman way back. I absolutley love this head, I've wanted it since I heard it like a year ago, I kept my options open but kept coming back to Fender as far as the head goes.

I did hear some "agular" stuff that just blew me away, but it's rich man's gear.

Anyone noticed something else about this rig? No !@#$ing horn in the cabinet. I fail to see the reason they put horns in bass amps now, to me they just bring out string noise and don't sound musical at all, as opposed to having no horn and dialing up the treble a bit as desired.

I have an ampeg 2x10 that has a horn. Good if you slap, really brings out the sound.
Downside, is it distorts easy. I turn it off mostly. I sure wouldn't get a cab with one again.

Yep, horns tend to break up very easily... also, I heard a GREAT slap/funk bassist playing out of a cab switching the horn on and off, and we both agreed that we hate horns, heh.

My Ashdown 2 by 10 had a horn, it hissed really bad and it ****** me off. One time it ****** me off so much that i opened up the cab and pulled the wires from to the horn out. That cab sounds alot better without the horn. Could really notice any difference without it except the f***** hiss it made was gone, hallelujia :D

Yep, I did that with a Yorkville 200 watt combo I had a long time ago (owned it for about a month, it's a long story), I just took the horn out of the circuit. Not only did it sound better, but I could play my guitar out of it without it distorting (at the time I had no guitar amp).

The ampeg cab that I have lets you turn the horn volume up and down......pretty much stays down now, so I agree with both of you. DOWN WITH HORNS
