I know most of you guys don't like Death Metal, let alone Slam Death. Slam Death was created by a band called Devourment. Their sound was so different they got kicked into a new subgenre of Death Metal.

Well my friends want to start a Slam Death metal band and I don't play bass but I'd be willing to learn to the band. I've been playing guitar for about 6 plus hours everyday for 8 months and it's almost become a 2nd language for me...just about.

My question is, do bass players of metal bands mostly just play the root of the power chord that the rhythm is playing? I understand there's a bit more to bass playing than that but is that the main thing?

The only bass I have access to is a 6-string bass and the neck on the thing is just huge haha since it's the only one I can use is it ok to start learning on such a beast?

Oh, yes.

It might be slightly complicated, but it's good when you have the sudden desire to play guitar parts and don't want to walk over to your guitar.

It's likely O.K. but I'd suggest getting a nice 4 stringer.

MMM yeah I would if I had the money haha

See, the friend that wants me to play bass for the band already has a 6-string bass. It's a pretty nice one too. If I had the money and stuff yeah I'd get a 4 stnrig bass,
but my priority is guitar and that's where my money is going this holiday season.

I guess I'll just see how it goes...

metal bass guitar is way easier than every thing else, and takes much less skill. It wont be hard if all you are playing is metal. and i agree. Try a 4 string, like a warwick cause they look pure metal.
