I have always wanted to record some of my stuff, but i have no clue where to start. I have looked at the Line6 Guitar Port as something to start out with, but can you not use the effects and amp settings that come with it? I just recently bought a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb and want to record with it and not any of the Line6 stuff. What would be the basic software and hardware that I need to start. Thanks.

Get a mic from a pawn shop and slap it in front of your amp. run the cable into your mic in on your computer. look up kristal pr audacity as a recording program, they're both free. Use your windows volume controls to select mic in and to set your recording and playback levels.
