I want to copy a cassette to my computer so I can put it on CD. Can I do this with just the sound recorder or should I use some other type of software?

My big question would be, what are you expecting for sound quality? You can do it with sound recorder, but there are other methods which might give you better results. What is it for? If you just want to preserve it before the tape disintegrates, that will work, but be warned - your sound card could add noise to the sound. With more info about what you want to do I can be of more help.

This a live recording of Roger Miller with the orchestra my wife plays in. It was not too long afterwards that he passed away. I would like to preserve as much of the sound quality that I can.

Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition. It converts analog to digital, cleans up pops and crackles, you can combine, seperate, set to rate, etc, and is very decent at what it is supposed to do. I take everything I record through the Plus and then go from there.

I had to buy mine, 20 bucks, and it is well worth the price.
