Hello people!
How are ya? Well n e wayz, i've had my guitar for 3 years now but only got completely obsessed the past 5 months. These days i'm trying to pound out 6-9 hours a day hehe, i rather have my life consist of sitting still for hours at time practicing for that goal as some of you maybe also do http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif. Back to the question....i start up with 1 hour of excersises than close to an hour of switching chords..then arpgeggios for +1 plus, maybe even 2. I do tapping for 30 min. And practicing yngwie stuff to get stretching/shifting which is also connected with the arpeggios. Sweeping for an hour. Jam out when i can't take commanding myself to to do things over and over again for maybe...20-30min. I take mini breaks in between each hour or 2 for...say 20 min. Then after i'm done with all that i repeat it over again. And at the end of each practice i usually just try and find new licks, which i suck at but i hope it'll get better. Now, SHOULD i throw 1000 things at myself and practicing a **** load of things each day? I mean, i practice the old stuff, but than always have new stuff to work on for new motions, chords, shifts, the whole bit. Is this a good idea? I've seen people say perfect wut u know first than move on but i totally disagree. So the question here is what you think i should change about my routine, should i always have new stuff each day, and just any tips and strategies that help you become the player you are would be VERY appreciated, thank you for reading this and happy playing people! http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif

You can push yourself as hard as you want on the "technique" side of things. That's all entirely up to YOU.Technique is good.(But it ain't everything)

But at the end of the day what's important is that you understand how to make music which is melodic enough to speak to people.

If they walk away going "wow that was fast and technical" then they may be impressed with your abilities in finger gymnastics. But if they walk away whistling your tune they're going to remember your name.

So you have to grab their attention and hold it (like a good speaker giving an interesting speech). If you can do that then you'll be able to add alot more flash and technique (whistles and bells)...this is like being demonstrative which is okay as long as your speech doesn't lack substance!

Do you talk "to" someone,or do you talk "at" them?

This can make a difference as to whether someone stays and listens to you or just walks away....

You have to make your guitar talk to people.

Start with melody.

Everything else is frosting on the donut.
