View Full Version : How we met our drummer.

It was a cold August afternoon, the afternoon of our fist gig. We were all looking forward to it, and eagerly anticipating our debut. We had worked had all year, but we were ready. But one question loomed:

"Where the [Mod Edit: Veiled Profanity] is our drummer?????"

We had four hours to go before we were due to go on stage, when my phone rang. It was our drummer, Cory:

"Dude, it's Cory."

"Yeah mate, where are ya."

"Errrm, I can't actually make it tonight."

"What the [Mod Edit: Veiled Profanity]???? Why???"

"It's kinda my birthday, and my parents want to take me out for dinner." (he's a wog).

The rest of the convo was basically me pulling my hair out and calling him every name I could think of.

With 20 minutes to go, we had given up on playing, when one of the bands that was playing that night pointed out that they brought their back-up drummer, and that he'd play anything.

We shrugged our collective sholders and asked him if he wanted to play some originals.

So, with 10 minutes to go before our set, we had found a replacement. We didn't really care at that stage that he hadn't have even heard our stuff before, we just wanted to play and didn't care if we sounded *****.

But what was suprising, was that this guy, who had never heard any of our material before, managed to play every song PERFECTLY. Actually, better than our current drummer. So half an hour later, we fired our old drummer, and hired our current one.

True story.

True... true...

I forgot to add, that when i saw our ex drummer at school two days later, I asked for his ID...

It really was his birthday, he had forgotten about it with all the exitement of playing our first show.

How does going out to dinner with your parents trump playing your first gig? What a dork. He deserved to get replaced.

haha... actually, on time one of the old time bands (i believe it was The Who) was doing a gig, and their drummer (who had taken tranquilizers for some idiotic reason before the show) passed out. So what does the who do? they get this complete stranger out of the audience, and he plays the whole concert with them. how cool would that be? i saw it on VH1's 40 freakiest concert moments.

That would be wicked for any band. Just imagine someone like David Gilmour, saying "Our stage guitarist Snowy White is a little... incapacitated. Does anyone in the audience know the songs?"

Mmmm, only in my wildest dreams...

Ok,that was a childish way to handle that. To start it was his ******* birthday and you swear at him and called him ,"every name you could think of".

If his parents wanted to take him out then to bad for you, imagine being in his spot on his birthday. He would seem ungrateful to turndown his parents, right?

But you shouldn't have fired him man,for all you know he's the next Vinny Paul, but not in YOUR band. And that drummer might decide to ditch you guys then join a better band..?

Its fine that you got a replacement for that gig,but to fire your old drummer for no good reason like that was pathetic.Give the guy a break and let him back in your band - IT WAS HIS BIRTHDAY AND YOU PULL THAT **** ON HIM.

Sorry man,but its the honest truth, your kind of a ********* for doing that.

What good is a drummer who can't be relied on to play the gig? I'm assuming this show was booked in advance, right? As it approaches, you'd think something would trigger in is head.

"Gee, guys... it seems like I'm doing something on that day. It rings a bell for some reason."

And they ended up with a better drummer. Sometimes good fortune comes dressed funny.
