of all the things i can't do, this is one I really want to get good at. If anyone knows a good sweep picking song i would love to get the tabs for it. Or even exercises that I could learn from.

Sweep picking. There are two parts you need to pay attention to.

Picking. Do you remember the Karate Kid? Remember the wrist motion on the "Paint the fence" technique? When picking downward, it's gonna have that brushing down motion on the wrist and then you switch motions for the upstroke.

Fretting. You will be sweeping "arpeggios", so thats another thing you'll need to learn. Look at the example below in Amin:

e---------------5--5---------------
b-------------5------5-------------
g-----------5----------5-----------
d---------7--------------7---------
a-------7------------------7-------
e-----5----------------------5-----

The first part is picked down. The second is picked up. When you encounter the 7's on the a and d strings, you must use a technique of "rolling" your fingertips. Start with your fingertip of your ring finger as you hit the E note on the A string. From the finger tip, roll down to the fleshy part of your finger for the A octave on the D string. This will be relatively easy compared to the group of notes you'll have to roll on for the upcoming 5th fret notes! Use the same technique I just described.

Practice these until the voicing is smooth, as you will have a tendency to make each note ring out at first. Keep in mind, this is not a chord but an arpeggio. The notes should sound clean but seperate.

That's the technique in a nutshell. Remember to roll your fretting hand, and "Paint the fence" with your picking hand. From there it's up to you to find the arpeggios! http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

ghodaddyyo...hey, thanks for the post..I am going to try and be more strick with the "roll"

Another thing to be aware of is that you tend to produce the notes much faster just because you can...I am speaking of somethign I cannot do yet...but everywhere I have read about sweep picking always seems to mention that ...
