Music Books

Are they written like tabs? I am having much trouble reading tabs. On every site they try to explain the "basic" way but I still can't undestand them.

"Song Books" usually have music written out for piano and guitar chord diagrams written across the top of the staff to show you what chord to play. these are good if you just want to strum through the chord changes and/or want the lyrics to the tune.

"Play it like the record" type books usually include TAB. These are the way to go if you actually want to learn all the fancy licks and solos that are in the tune.
