I have just started playing the guitar about 2 weeks ago and love your lessons. My questions is about the speed of the metronome. If I am in 4/4 time should I start out at a slower speed (say 60 beats per minute) and then increase the speed as my fingers become less clumsy? I can do the single string picking and working up and down the strings in time with your metronome, but I still can't play the chords that fast. Also any advice on how to split up my practice time, as far as playing chords, working on scales etc. Thanks for any help.

That's exactly how you should work with a metronome. As far as the MIDI metronome that i provide with the lessons goes.... I had to pick a tempo, and I didn't want to have to create a file for every possible tempo variation, so that's what I came up with.
As far as practicing goes, I think that in the beginning you should just work on everything as the mood strikes you. Mostly, you are trying to introduce your hands to the guitar and the guitar to your hands. Since everything needs work, anything you work on will help you to get better. Just try to hit all four areas of theory, left hand technique, right hand technique and just playing music regularly.
