B B King - king of the blues! If your into purely metal and hard rock (which I suggest you might given your name) it will be a hard transition to BB, but good luck, because it will be worth it! Im no expert on him though. I have a greatest hits and it sounds damn good (also riding with the king w/clapton).

I will reccomend some more blues/rock bands. If you know any of them then forgive me, I will assume you know nothing about music!!

Led Zeppelin - Pure bluesy rock. Get Led Zep II.

The Allman Brothers Band - southern blues-rock. Get Live At Filmore East. Lots of southern accents and slide guitar, and it sounds oh so good.

Cream - Get Fresh Cream. Blue-rock.

The Rolling Stones - If your a hard rock/metal guy the best album I think to get first is the live album Flashpoint... its got a bit of a harder edge than their recordings. Sounds brilliant!

Neil Young - I dunno if you will like any of his stuff except this album... but get Weld. It aint metal, but it sure is loud and distorted, and songs such as Like A Hurricane will just knock you dead with their power. Its a live album.

The Band - For more of a laidback, country/bluesy sound... get Live At Watkins Glen.

Black Sabbath - The fathers of metal. Albums Black Sabbath and Paranoid are the best (and most bluesy incidentally), but its all good!

Deep Purple - Get the album In Rock... raw-sounding hard rock, and contains the amazing song Child In Time.

Aerosmith - Hard rock. Get Toys In The Attic and Rocks, or any greatest hits/live album with the songs "Sweet Emotion", "Back In The Saddle" and "Last Child".

Expanding musical interests is always fun!

B.B King- The quintessential blues master. He's classic, and still amazing.

Dream Theater- One of the most skilled bands I've ever heard. They'll blow your mind. CDs would be "A Change of Seasons" or "Images and Words"

Black sabbath is very bluesy. That may be one of the reasons they are the best, but they are the first metal band. I read their whole story somewhere.

^ I think EVERYONE should have some The Band and CCR.

Judas Priest - not my type of music.
B.B King - excellent
Dream Theater - really good, but sometimes get very self indulgent.
Between the Buried and me - don't know
Wasp - don't know
Apocalypse - don't know
Free - Really great. I love em.
Blue Oyster Cult - Everyone should know them. I like them.
Damage Plan - don't know
Superjoint Ritual - don't know

Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny ( I feel this album shows their entire range)
B.B King - pick one... pretty hard to go wrong with BB.
Dream Theater - heard 'em, like 'em, don't know what to recommend.
Between the Buried and me - must plead ignorance
Wasp - Heard one, you've heard 'em all. Try their first one, just called W.A.S.P.
Apocalypse - dunno
Free - I like Paul Rogers better w/ Bad Company and beyond- voice is more mature.
Blue Oyster Cult - Fire of Unknown Origin
Damage Plan - never got into 'em.
Superjoint Ritual - ^

Dream Theater - bloody awesome. the level of skill in this band is unsurpassed in anything else i've ever heard, not just the guitarist. i can't really recommend anything, since each album is so different to all the others.

Damage Plan - great band. KINDA gives a pantera sound, with half of the pantera line up in it, but it's a lot heavier/nu metal type sound.

The Damageplan album has some great songs on it, and is worth getting if you're a Pantera fan...

Dream Theater, excellent, as said before Images & Words, and A Change of Seasons are both brilliant albums...Train Of Thought is also fantastic.

BB King, there are blues artists that I would rather listen too, but he is the King. Ridin' With The King that he did with Eric Clapton is a great album.

Cool thanks.

Let me clarify some things... I like metal and blues, although they are quite different from eachother. Most of the bands i wrote i've heared people talk about.

Between the buried and me is a band my friend told me about and i suppose its a metal band of an unknown lifespan to me.Free is a british rock band i think,i heared it on the radio and want to know if it is a worthy band to get into-along with Judas Priest.

Apocalypse is a metal band along the lines of Slayer i'm told, but i've never heard their music.

Damage Plan was the band Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul were in after Pantera broke up and Superjoint Ritual is Phil's band after the break up.

Blue Oyster Cult is a rock band of sort my sort-of-friend is into, but i havn't heard it either.

Thanks guys,by the way, here's some more bands i question:

Lamb Of God
Eric Clapton
Helloween
Fear Factory
Nine Inch Nails (sounds like **** already....)

Any more suggestions?

If your looking at Clapton, start with his Live On Tour 2001 double cd... got most of his best-known stuff, such as Layla and Sunshine Of Your Love, and they all sound 10 times better on this album!

Black sabbath is very bluesy. That may be one of the reasons they are the best, but they are the first metal band. I read their whole story somewhere.Black Sabbath is not even Bluesy. Listen to BB King and see if there is any resemblance at all.

As far as the list of bands in the first post, I'd say BB King's best album was Live At Cook County Jail. Riding With The King is a good one too. The only Free album I know about is Fire and Water. It has their greatest hit on it, All Right Now. Like Sixstring said, Bad Company is better. I'm not familiar with the other bands mentioned.

If you like metal stuff, check some of these bands out -

Artimus Pyledriver
Isis
High On Fire
Sleep
Bible of the Devil
Orange Goblin
Acid King
Sheavy
Boris
Abramis Brama
Electric Wizard
Lair of the Minotaur
Kaptain Sun

Keep in mind that there isn't much "guitar hero" stuff in these bands though - they are mostly the slower, doom/sludge type of metal.

Blue Oyster Cult is the only one on that list I like.

No BB King or Free for you? I'll take 'em, don't worry.

Anyway, if you want a primary Clapton education, you gotta get these albums:

Cream- Fresh Cream (good blues rock. Highlights are I Feel Free, Sweet Wine, and Spoonfull.

Cream- Disraeli Gears (mainly psychadelic. Laid the groundwork for metal. Highlights are pretty much the whole frickin' album, except for Mother's Lament and Blue Condition, which are both novelty songs which probably got put on because Clapton and Co. were fried out of their minds and thought they were hilarious)

Cream- Wheels Of Fire (good, but no where near Disraeli. Highlights are Crossroads, Politican, White Room AKA best Cream song EVER, and Sittin on Top of the World)

Derek And The Dominoes (Favorite album of all time. The whole C.D is a highlight, especially Layla and Have You Ever Loved A Woman)

Then, if you like what you hear, get Blind Faith (nevermind it having the worst album cover ever) and Goodbye by Cream, which has Badge on it. That's good for the price itself.

Then, pickup Zeppelin 2 and 4, and Machine Head if you haven't already.Bam. That's the best of 70's rock.

Images and Words by Dream Theater changed my life. Get it.

Most Blue Oyster Cult is good, Fire of Unknown Origin and Agents of Fortune stand out as my favorites.

If you haven't heard of The Darkness, check out their debut album Permission to Land. They are more hard rock rather than metal, though.

BB King-Legend, one of the greatest blues guitar players ever, amazing.
Judas Priest-Cool as hell
Dream Theater-Overrated and wanky, technically amazing, but IMO they lack songwriting abilities that connect with people, they get boring.
BOC-Decent

not familiar with any of the other bands

I'm a rediculously huge Judas Priest fan. They basically introduced the twin-lead guitar sound to metal. I can't suggest just 1 Priest album but I can reccomend 2- British Steel and Painkiller. British Steel gives a good insight into the roots of Metal, while Painkiller is, IMHO, the best example of dueling lead guitars you'll come across.
