I voted Sid and nancy cause I diddnt think of the wall.
Or any of the others.
But here is a cool one I watched recently.
Called Grand Theft Parsons.
http://www.counterculture.co.uk/movie-review/grand-theft-parsons.html
For the most part its a true story.
Plus Johnny Knoxville stars in it so how bad could it be.

You know, I'm ashamed to say it, but the only one of those that I've heard of is Almost Famous. And even worse, I've never seen Spinal Tap. I need to take a trip to Hollywood Video sometime soon.

I love Floyd but think The Wall movie was a disaster.
And I'm glad to see Crossroad missing from the list.

Nobody's mentioned Still Crazy yet and that was a pretty good film! I haven't seen Rockstar but a friend of mine said it was alright.

After that: The Last Waltz, maybe?
Scorsese's Dylan doc?
The Great Rock'n'Roll Swindle?
Stop Making Sense?
But I haven't seen any of the ones listed, so I guess can't comment... :rolleye:

IMHO... Without a doubt... Spinal Tap.
I still laugh my *** off whenever I watch it. Plus no matter how old some of the material in that movie may become, me and my band mates still find ourselves quoting one of them just about every time we are in rehearsal. :)

Tap looks like a winner. I personally love it, it inspired my signiture :D No-one's mentioned Yellow Submarine, Woodstock or Singles (Although that was more about romance than the music).

Spinal Tap's funny.
Meet the Ruttles is also very funny.
Crossroads is cool.
My favorite, though, is probably Eddie and the Cruisers. In some ways it's cheesy, but the view of life on the road as a struggling band is one of the closest I've seen to reality.
I really want to see The Train.

Yeah but Dylan was a folk artist really.Tell that to his 1966 audiences. He started with folk , but he was one of the prime movers in the invention of rock music - IOW, helping it to progress from disposable commercial rock'n'roll to serious, heavy underground culture.
(He always loved rock'n'roll actually, Little Richard, etc., but only moved into folk because rock then (61/2) was too shallow and ephemeral - it had dissolved into pop music. Then he heard the Beatles and Animals, and realised rock had potential after all.)

Spinal Tap, of course.
And in a folkie vein by the same guys, A Mighty Wind
I also like Light of Day (1987) starring Micheal J. Fox, Joan Jett, and Michael McKean (aka David St. Hubbins aka 'Lenny'). It's kind of a gritty story that doesn't really go anywhere but it's kind spot on when it comes to sleezy bar band life. Interestingly, Micheal J. Fox put his guitar training from Back to the Future to use in one scene where he does a credible version of SRV's Rude Mood along with Michael McKean on bass.

Every one of these movies are better R n' R movies then the ones in the pool in my opinion. With the exception of Almost Famous which is a great movie. I am glad to see their are other fans of Still Crazy. It's a tiny bit cheesy but it's a really great film.
