Hi there all, just heard the news that DeArmond has been dropped by Fender as a guitar line. I was just moments away fron buying an X-155 for less than $300 and I'm wondering if you think it is still worth it, given that replacements and service will be null?

Per the Fender Discussion Forum:
DeArmonds are not going anywhere, but the current models are definitely close-outs.
It appears the current models are cutting into the Guild sales. Worry not about the customer support or parts support, because DeArmond are just Guild copies, and Guilds aren't going anywhere.

I'd like to know who's in charge of decisions like this. "Hmmmm... these things are actually selling... better get rid of 'em and see if we can't sell some of these things over here."

DeArmonds are to Guilds what Squire is to Fender. Cheaper Korean made copies of the American made Guilds. Problem seems to be that the quality and price of the DeArmonds make it a tough decision when choosing between DeArmond or Guild.
I own a DeArmond Starfire myself which is based on the Guild of the same model. I love mine, and in fact treat it better than all of my other guitars.

I wouldn't let it stop you from getting the DeArmond! I'm lucky enough(actually, I purchased them both,...so I guess that I have the resourcefulness, not luck) to have both An original Guild (electric/acoustic) and a Starfire Special. To be honest the DeArmond is probably the best "copy" I've ever and will ever own!!
Too bad for the ones who can't afford the higher end stuff,...cause if this is true, it'll be a crying shame! http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/frown.gif
Go for THAT guitar!

Hi - I'm new around here. I'm not sure what is up with DeArmond, but Sam Ash and Musician's Friend both have some great sales going on right now. I usually play acoustic, but when I saw these prices I decided to order one. Sam Ash has the M-77 on sale for $220 (list is $900). This is a brand new model # and its already on sale. What does anyone else think?

With one key difference. DeArmonds in general have great pickups in them.
Every Dearmond I have played has been an incredible guitar.

I have a beat up DeArmond M75-T that just sounds great. All I had to do was replace the tuners and it's perfect. It sounds very "Gretschy" to me. Why are they dropping them? Because people have realized what great guitars they are and Fender is taking a hit on their flagship line guitars.
Fender ruined Guild and Tacoma.....
