I was just wondering how many people have had equipment stolen at gigs?
I have only had one experience of a small case of misc. acsesories getting ripped off, but it still sucked.

It's tough to keep an eye on your stuff ALL of the time.
What do you do to keep your gear from walking away? (From the club or car)

We played a gig last summer in a town called Yelm, and the people who were in charge of the event basically screwed it all up. They only brought like half the equipment they would actually need, and thanks to us being prepared we had brought a bunch of our sound equipment that they ended up "borrowing." We never got back a mic and a couple cords, luckily nothing too big. We now have an inside joke--whenever we dislike something we say "that's so Yelm." We even wrote a break-up song called You're so Yelm.

To prevent that stuff we put blue masking tape on all of our cords and equipment so we can tell which is ours, because in my experience you'll end up sharing some sort of equipement with other bands at a gig.

You really need to have trusted friends with you to help keep an eye out for your stuff.

There are always stories of big stars who have had guitars, etc. stolen from dressing rooms while doing gigs at big venues. Presumably, the only people who would even have access are people who are "supposed to be there".

You need a few extra sets of eyes.

the tape is a good idea, also NEVER leave any walk away stuff (tuners ,pedals, mics) laying around. at the end of the gig,box em up until the next nite. i never put my guitars on a stand, between sets the y go back to thier cases, and the cases go behind the drums. usually its common sense,if people cant see it or get to it, they cant STEAL it

One of our "roadie" friends left a box full of my pedals and cables at a venue we played at one time. I didn't realize it til the next day. When I went back to get it , of course nobody seen it. :_devil:

I've only lost a guitar stand so far, not such a big deal. I'm totally anal about my equipment though, so it's never really left unattended. If we want to go drink at the bar or something we'll just take turns. One of us will sit with the stuff until someone comes back. Just trade off you know?

I have aquired several guitar stands throughout the years from guys leaving them behind, but I think they probably figured the same, that it was no big deal cuz they went back for them. I think I have only actually bought 2 stands in 20 years.

When I go to open mikes some guys leave their amp in the car unless they will need it.
Personaly, I never leave any gear in the car. I also don't put Fender bumper stickers on my car either. (Read: Steal guitars here!)
Anyone ever had gear stolen from the parking lot?

Not me. The only time I leave stuff in the car is at a place we usually play that has parking lot security. It's a REALLY bad part of town though so I still get nervouse.
