I've been playing the same licks for far too long now. I'd like to learn some licks involving two or more strings played simultaneously (think Brian Setzer). If anyones got any good looks, please share them with me.

I am curious as to HOW we would go about posting licks here....
ANYONE have any suggestions?
Does anyone know of a good, free tabulature program out there that is easy to use as well?
Thanks.....

I added Inside The Music to their resource directory... let's see if they accept my submission.

Hi guys I like to add something to the problem of playing new licks. I think we will all agree that being able to play new licks, chord progressions and songs is what keeps us going. However we all fall into ruts. Some players really never get out that is why they sound the same from c d to c d and gig to gig. The real isue is they or you or I have lost touch with the music inside of them. There is only one real way out when that happens. You have to learn to sing and hear what you play without your instrument. Other wise you can coppy licks all you want but they will never really give you that piece of mind. You see you and I are individuals and we need to release what we have inside. Some look for others licks to do it but it will never due. By learning to sing scales and all that you hear you will find in time your own musical voice. Then you can go into and create licks and what ever you want. However it is a process to get to this point. That is the way I taught my advance students for a while it really changed thier lives and mine as well.

That is one of the things that those great jazz players always talk about. If you learn to sing it, then the music will come from inside of you instead of off your fingertips. I think the idea must come from the fact that you don't hear the great horn player just spewing licks all the time. They have to blow their notes, so they are breathing the music. That quest for the ultimate meaning of one note and the perfect melody really inspires me.

I have this really cool "up a 5th" melodic minor lick that works well over a static dom7 chord. It's a fusion idea which gives it an outside sound for a couple of measures (kind of like layovers).
I think some people would really like it and it will add some new ideas to the bag of tricks.
I would like to post it but I don't know how. Any ideas? I have a scanner ...

Hummmmmmmmmmmm.....
this is interesting...if you were really ambitious you could post it to a free htm host and then provide everyone the address (assuming that you are somewhat savvy with html code)
What do you think Stone?

Fusion, I'd love to see that lick and this looks like a great place for us to trade them. I've never really gotten into fusion (too difficult to comprehend) but this would be a great way for me to get my feet wet.
If you have to, you can do one of these things:
E---9(H)/11(P)\9-- H=Hammer on
B---9------------- P=Pull off
G---8-------------
D---8-------------
A---x-------------
E---x-------------
This way I can bring my guitar with me to the computer and learn somethinghttp://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

heh heh... bet you made liberal use of that new message preview function for that post http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/tongue.gif
I've been discussing this sort of thing with my partners-in-crime here at zentao.com.... a section where people could upload their own files.
The biggest issue is security... as soon as you start leaving open spots like that, you leave the server open to attack from hackers.
Another option is to try and come up with some sort of software interface ala WholeNote... but I'm not too crazy about that either....

If you guys are looking for some really cool licks, I would recommend the Robben Ford CD "Tiger Walk" Almost all guitar instrumental, I wasn't crazy about it at first, because it's more fusion related than the electric blues he had been doing, (and which is what I was expecting when I poped the cd in the old stereo) It has a book to go with it you can purchase at most music stores. ( or if someone's really interested, I am not above a little Plagliarism, for learnings sake, as I paid for the original book http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/unsure.gif ) Just email me and let me know!
p.s. I changed my profile so that my email link should show now!

Strat-n-Paul,
I'm interested in anything Robben Ford does http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/cool.gif
I got one of those free web servers and put up that melodic minor lick there. You can find it at
http://jove.prohosting.com/~ES335/MelodicMinor5.htm
I hope this is an ok way to do it; it's the only thing I could think of.

I think that is an EXCELLENT way for us to communicate licks...
Now, if only your subject matter wasn't over my head....I would probably..........

I never thought about telling everybody to go get their own space http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/lol2.gif
You can also think of that substitution as the G Mixolydian mode with a #4.... or G Lydian with a b7 if you don't have the melodic minor scale down.

For anyone interested, I've added an explaination page of this Melodic Minor/Altered Major scale relationship. You can find it here
http://jove.prohosting.com/~ES335/MelodicMinor_dom7Relationship.htm
I hope this helps. Let me know if I forgot anything.
